‘One Piece’ Chapter 1053: Claims Hitetsu’s Hidden Identity as Wano’s Dead Shogun
Who knew that a simple thing like collecting kokeshi dolls could cause so much trouble among fans? Before Oda took a one-month break, Chapter 1053 of One Piece had a lot of things to explain.
It turns out that Tenguyama Hitetsu, the swordsmith who didn’t seem like much, is actually Kozuki Sukiyaki, who was the shogun of Wano before Orochi and Kaido.
Sukiyaki was thought to be dead for this long. Oden, his own son, didn’t know what had happened to him and thought it might have been Orochi’s fault.
So, Sukiyaki had been kept secret all these years. It looks like Orochi wasn’t the only one who could lie, since Sukiyaki has beaten him at it.
Oden’s father was known to be a fair leader who was upset by his son’s actions. Will he use his power as shogun to bring peace back to Wano now that things are so bad there?
Again, you have to bow down to Oda-sensei’s planning and plot. He put hints about Sukiyaki’s return in different parts of the manga. His death was only assumed; it was never said for sure. Hitetsu wears a mask and can’t go to town, possibly because he’s afraid of being found out.

Hitetsu may have been talking about the place where he hid from Orochi when he said he found the kokeshi dolls in an underground chamber.
Since the same people voice Sukiyaki and Hitetsu in the anime, we should have known this was going to happen. Will Sukiyaki get back on the throne? Momonosuke is not yet ready for such a big job, and the situation at Wano needs someone with more experience.
