Hunter x Hunter Author to complete another 10 chapters of the manga

Yoshihiro Togashi, the writer, and illustrator of Hunter X Hunter teased on July 26 that he is already working on another batch of 10 future chapters, beyond those he’s been regularly sharing status updates of. In short, Togashi for years now has been working on the series through batches of 10 chapters before going back into hiatus. These past few weeks, ever since opening his Twitter account, all of his updates were about the same 10 chapters as well. However, Hunter X Hunter author tweeted out that he in fact already started working on another batch of 10 chapters.

This is his translated tweet. First, Togashi clarified that he finished writing in the characters for the batch of 10 chapters he is currently working on, though he might need to do some updates. He added that he’ll tell us when the chapters have been fully completed.

Next, and this one is quite surprising, Togashi also mentioned that he’s already working on another batch of 10 chapters. In the end, he jokingly stressed via a hashtag that the chapters are not at all complete, and are still in the “name” phase.

All mangaka generally follow the same set of procedures when drawing manga. The first step is to make the “name” which is the manga’s storyboard. Then they do the inking of the characters and everything else. The mangakas also have assistants to help them. Togashi follows similar steps, although he also recently mentioned not doing things “traditionally” anymore due to his health problems.

One doesn’t know how long it will take for Togashi to finish the first batch of 10 chapters. No official announcement was made regarding the date when Hunter x Hunter will officially resume. We do not know if the chapters will be released on a weekly schedule or not. However, one thing is for sure once the manga resumes, and once the 10th and last chapter of the first batch gets released, it won’t be very long till the following chapters drop. It’s possible that Hunter x Hunter author has found a way to keep giving his fans new chapters steadily, and that the series won’t be going into hiatus again.

Note that Yoshihiro Togashi has been suffering from health problems for years now. In an early July 2022 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Togashi described how he’s been drawing lately. An exhibition of his art will also be held in Japan starting 28th October 2022.
