As you can see, the longest hiatus used to be 80 issues. Since Hunter x Hunter 391 did not appear in the latest WSJ issue, the hiatus is now 81 volumes. Since the beginning of 2019, no chapter has been published, and hence, the break continues.
When will Hunter x Hunter Hiatus end?
Earlier this year, there were rumors that Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 will be released in 2020. But then the Covid-19 scares started and all went down in smoke. WSJ has kept its mouth shut about the series. Hence, fans are nearly about to give up all hope for 2020. But hold on.
Weekly Shonen Jump isn’t really in the best place right now. One Piece is basically a biweekly manga right now. Act-Age has been fully canceled. Burn the Witch will only have 4 chapters.
Bone Collection, Guardian of the Witch, and Mitama Security have been axed lately. Time Paradox Ghostwriter is doing very well. There’s no ongoing sports title.
This means Shonen Jump magazine needs more series that can act as a placeholder – it needs more titles that can instigate the fans to buy the issues. And what better title than the fan-favorite Hunter x Hunter? And that is why fans are still hopeful.
Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 Release Date:
Hunter x Hunter 391 can be released and the sales of WSJ will multiply. Maybe not exactly in this month, but later, when Burn the Witch ends and WSJ doesn’t have enough popular titles, that is the perfect spot for another chapter to be released. And if Togashi hasn’t given up on the series, he will draw the chapter.
We expect Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 to return around October 2023. We have no exact date and there is no confirmation whatsoever but that is no reason to stop hoping.
Togashi has chosen to continue the series at his own pace and maybe he will end this gigantic hiatus soon.

With so many plot threads operating together, it is completely impossible to predict exactly which ones will be present. Given the discussion about the Spiders in Chapter 390, we can have them in Chapter 391. They aren’t meant to be manipulated so maybe they can con the Xi-Yu somehow.
And talking of the Spiders, we get both Kurapika and Hisoka. For the longest time, fans have been yearning to see an alliance between these two. From the first arc, their few moments together were absolutely brilliant.
Now that they have similar goals, they can work together. But of course, the dynamic will be interesting – Kurapika looking down and Hisoka always scheming.
We can also get glimpses of the other Princes and their strategies. It is a very complicated ordeal and Togashi is brilliantly plotting out the story. This arc will definitely be an extremely large one and we can only hope the series comes back properly to conclude Dark Continent Expedition.

Chapter 390 Recap: Clash
1st Prince Benjamin is pondering about his Guardian Beast and why it releases the coins. He plans his strategy about using the coins ability by spreading it across the nation and having it affect everyone. But the succession war is troubling him.
The Guardian Beast isn’t super helpful when it comes to the war but the Prince isn’t disheartened – he resolves to win it and become a proper king. He meets the head of the Xi-Yu Family and they discuss the unknown concept of Nen.
The Xi Yu family boss and underboss discuss their current battle with the other families. They have taken considerable losses and need to handle both the other families and the Spiders. And to control spiders, they need Hisoka. Hisoka is not on Deck 4. So the Spiders can be allowed to search the deck.
Meanwhile, the underboss can search Hisoka on Deck 3 and kill the Hei-Ly family boss. The Underboss gathers two underlings to do the task. The Hei-Ly immediately pick up on it and are ready. Zakuro and Lynch are defeated and the Underboss is subdued. But the situation is reversed.
Zakuro and Lynch turn the situation around and extract information. Meanwhile, the Underboss is held off by the Military. He bribes them to turn a blind eye but uses his ability to execute the two officers. He’s free to chase the Hei-Ly.
