During their conversation, Smile enquires why he has a dictionary in his phone. He replies that it’s called a Saijiki, a book used for primarily writing Haiku. He says that even an app is available but he, being the old-school boy, prefers using the book.
She asks him if he can write Haiku anytime, to which he replies, “On good days”. Becoming more curious, she politely asks him if he can make one right now. Cherry becomes flustered because he’s not very good at reciting poetry.
But suddenly, he finds inspiration in his surroundings and crafts a beautiful Haiku on the spot. Here’s the Haiku:
Lights in the summer night
make a false start
In the evening sunset
Smile compliments him on his Haiku and calls him cute, which he doesn’t understand why. Cherry, being aloof, requests to know what exactly about that short verse is cute. She says the phrase, “make a false start” and his voice are the cute aspects!
When she further asks him what he means by “Lights in the summer night”, he comments that it’s a Summer Kigo, akin to a seasonal word. After this encounter which pulled every viewer’s heartstrings, we see him pondering over what she meant by “cute”. Little did he know how this would mark the beginning of a wild summer romance!
