Gintama The Very Final Movie to Indulge North American Fans Soon
Prepare to bid farewell to your favorite silver-haired samurai, as very soon you will be able to check out Gintama THE VERY FINAL movie, on big screens near you.
Gintama is one of the most successful anime franchises in the west, competing with giants like Naruto in terms of manga sales. The series is beloved for its brilliant mix of comedy and drama.
While the manga had ended in 2019, the ending of the story didn’t get animated until very recently. The final movie of the franchise was released at the beginning of the year. The release was exclusive to Japanese theaters, but not anymore.
Eleven Arts has acquired the rights for Gintama THE VERY FINAL movie distribution in the North American region. The movie is set to be released in theatres later this year.
The title of the movie has been modified to Gintama THE VERY FINAL for the North American release.
The franchise had previously released two movies, but none of them came close to this one in terms of success. Gintama’s final movie is the highest-grossing film in the history of the franchise.
The movie had crossed the 1 billion yen mark in mere 16 days upon its release. This is especially surprising because of the ongoing pandemic during the run. Surprisingly, it managed to topple even the likes of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train on the top.
Gintama THE FINAL Reveals Sorachi’s Gorilla Cameo And Self-Portrait
The movie will cover the final arc in the manga, along with some additional parts made specifically for the movie. Gintoki and friends are all set for a battle against beings from the other world, obviously in the standard Gintama fashion.
Expect the usual parodies and emotional highs as it comes back for the very last time.
About Gintama
The story is set in an alternate-history late-Edo period, where humanity is attacked by aliens called ‘Amanto.’ Edo Japan’s samurai fight to defend Earth, but the shōgun cowardly surrenders when he realizes the aliens’ power.
He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country.
The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.
The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
