Demon Train: Mugen Train Dethrones Spirited Away To Become Japan’s Highest-Grossing Film
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train the movie has been snatching records left and right and is currently the most talked about animated film.
Ever since its premiere on October 16th, the Mugen Train movie has been gathering a huge number of viewers to the theatres and surpassing previous records set by other movies in Japan.
Its most recent achievement includes surpassing one of the most beloved movies throughout Japan. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train recently surpassed the Studio Ghibli pride Spirited Away and that too within 59 days of its release.
The movie has made over ¥32.47 billion which took Spirited Away more than 250 days to earn, making Mugen Train the highest grossed film of all time in Japan.
Despite being released during the ongoing pandemic, the movie had already broken some of the records set earlier by other big names both animated and in the non-anime genre.
It had already ranked at #1 in the fourth weekend of release earning nearly 1,772,925,900 yen (about US$16.854 million) and selling over 3,424,930 tickets in the first three days.
Now, after almost two months of its release, Mugen Train has drawn 25 million people to the movie theatres.
Why was Demon Slayer Mangaka Paid 0.006% of Mugen Train Sales?
Part of its success is due to it being screened daily and almost 24/7 at some theatres.
As it became popular more people got curious about the story of Tanjiro, a young boy trying to avenge his family’s death while proving to be the greatest demon slayer.
Soon enough it ruled the movie charts surpassing movies like Your Name and Harry Potter, the previous record-setters in Japan.
Call it luck or call it popularity, one thing is for sure, Mugen Train is breaking all records and has no plans of stopping anytime soon!!
