Manga Delayed Due To Paper Shortages: Is the Pandemic to Blame? Which Manga Are On Break?
While we did know that we are in a global pandemic, the world is also facing a paper shortage and manga releases are getting delayed. And as expected, this shortage is causing difficulties in the manga industry. Paper has been integral to the publishing of manga. Despite the entrance of digital reading platforms, the demand for reader print dampened only slightly. So it does cause a little bit of trouble for manga readers across the world when paper shortage causes delays in publishing. A French Manga Publishing Company released a statement that they would delay releasing two manga series by a month. These series’ were supposed to be in the market by April, but now fans will have to wait till May for those volumes. These series are “MoMo: The Blood Taker” and “Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?” This release was a part of the company’s 10th-anniversary celebrations. The delay is because the paper rolls of the correct size will not be able to reach the printers on time for an April Release.
Which Mangas Are Delayed?
The manga titles that are delayed are very interesting. “MoMo: The Blood Taker” is a mystery thriller manga series. In Tokyo, several cases are happening where people are dying. However, their bodies don’t have any blood. Mikogami Keigo is a detective. The story follows him on his investigation. The next manga being delayed is, “Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?” which is a Boys Love Manga Series. Kiyoshi Adachi is a 30-year-old office salaryman. He has managed to be a virgin till now. And because of this, he gained a superpower. He can read the thoughts of other people when he touches them. What happens when he finds out that his colleague has a romantic interest in him? The story follows Adachi and his adventures.

Company’s Statement!
The Kaze company is based in Paris, of which, Crunchyroll EMEA currently owns the company and its functions. This is, in turn, a subsidiary of Sony’s Joint Venture with Funimation into the anime industry. The company also produces French translations for Japanese works. And the company has become one of the largest independent manga publishers in Europe. In 2005, the company even tried to enter the music industry. They launched a music label for J-Pop. The company publishes its works in Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and Austria as well. They are facing a delay in the release of their manga.
Although there is a delay with printing these manga volumes, the company believes that the second volume will be a smooth release. The second volumes are to be out in June. The paper shortage was primarily due to logistical problems because of the pandemic. There were issues in storage, transportation, and shipping. Industries across Europe have reported a paper shortage. Although it is true that once the pandemic passes, or even by the time the next wave passes, everything will return to normal, it is important to remember that paper is a non-renewable product.
