Thermae Romae: Netflix to Release Anime Adaptation in 2021
Thermae Romae is a hilarious bathhouse comedy by mangaka Mari Yamazaki. It follows the story of Lucius, a Roman bath designer who is hit by a creator’s block, thus stopping him from coming up with new ideas.
He somehow discovers a tunnel underneath a spa connecting to modern Japan. Baffled by the modern innovation, he uses those ideas to come up with modern bathhouses for Rome.
This funny Rome meets Japan story is finally getting the anime adaptation it deserves. Netflix in partnership with Mari Yamazaki is making an anime adaptation titled “Thermae Romae Novae” which will be released in 2021.
NAZ production house is producing the series with the original manga as the base of the story. Mari Yamazaki has written new stories solely for this collaboration. You will be able to see them play out once the anime airs.

He is saying “Omnes Thermae Romam Ducunt” which means “All Bathhouses Lead to Rome.”
The poster was drawn by Mari Yamazaki in October 2020.
This was a much-awaited collaboration by Netflix since their announcement of signing with creators like CLAMP, Shin Kibayashi and Mari Yamazaki.
The manga inspired a three-episode anime adaptation in 2012 followed by two live-action movies, thus garnering much attention.
Discotek licensed the anime in America while the manga was licensed by Yen Press. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime on their website.

The original manga concluded in 2013 with six volumes. An anime adaptation with three episodes was made shortly after two successful live-action movies adding to its popularity.
Netflix is coming up with an anime adaptation in partnership with Mari Yamazaki and VIZ productions. The anime is set to air in 2021.
