The Watch Coming On BBC America In January
The Watch will be coming to BBC America in the new year. A fresh group of misfit cops will arrive to save the world again. BBC America announced in the recently concluded New York Comic-Con that the brand-new series will debut on the network early next year, with some exciting videos. From the looks of it, The Watch will be a fun and campy ride.
Said to be ‘inspired by’ the Discworld books written by famous British author Sir Terry Pratchett, The Watch looks at a team of maverick cops, called The City Watch, who must find their instincts and direct their passion into saving the city. It is a fantasy series that will have the team facing off against wizards, trolls, and supernatural creatures.
The City Watch includes one of Pratchett’s iconic characters, Captain Sam Vimes, an alcoholic, angry but sharp police officer. Richard Dormer, known for his role on Game Of Thrones as Ben Dondarrion, will be taking up the role of Vimes. The City Watch also includes Lady Sybil Ramkin, played by Lara Rossi, Carrot, played by Adam Hugill, the mysterious Angua, played by Marama Corlett, and a forensic specialist Cheery, played by Jo Eaton Kent.
In addition, famous actor Wendell Pierce will be joining the cast to voice Death or The Grim Reaper along with Matt Berry, who will voice Wayne, a talking sword.
Although the series has a stellar cast, the response to the videos hasn’t been very favourable. Fans of Terry Pratchett’s books have expressed their disappointment in the adaption even before its release, stating that the series has completely warped the idea of Pratchett’s beloved novels. Rhianna Pratchett, the late author’s daughter, has distanced herself from the production and has said that it does not have much in common with her father’s work.
The eight-part series will premiere on BBC America on January 3rd, 2021 at 8 pm ET/PT.
