The television industry’s first primetime animated drama, Pantheon, has just announced its cast and there are some big names!
The upcoming sci-fi show will be one of its kind, introducing the world of artificial intelligence to American primetime.
Its parent company AMC, known for its first original series The Walking Dead, is once again proving to be a pioneer of the industry with its latest venture. The series too has been aptly named Pantheon!
To name a few stars who joined the cast this week, there is Daniel Dae Kim, Katie Chang, Paul Dano, Rosemarie DeWitt, Aaron Eckhart, Taylor Schilling, Ron Livingston, Chris Diamantopoulos, Raza Jaffrey, and Scoot McNairy.
What is the Pantheon?
Declared the very first primetime animated series, Pantheon is based on a series of short stories by Ken Liu. The show will primarily deal with “Uploaded Intelligence.”
The cable channel has ordered two seasons of eight-hour episodes each. However, a premiere date is yet to be announced.
Who will lead the show?
In a press release, the American Multi-Cinema (AMC) introduced the new entrees to Pantheon’s cast.
Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O, Always Be My Maybe), Katie Chang (The Bling Ring), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine), Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Thank You For Smoking), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black), Ron Livingston (Loudermilk, A Million Little Things), Chris Diamantopoulos (Silicon Valley, American Dad), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland) and Scoot McNairy (Narcos: Mexico, Argo) will lead the cast rounded out by Anika Noni Rose (Little Fires Everywhere), Grey Griffin (Star Wars Resistance), SungWon Cho (Anime Crimes Division, Borderlands 3), Kevin Durand (DC’s Swamp Thing, Ballers), Samuel Roukin (A Call To Spy, TURN: Washington’s Spies) and Krystina Alabado (Broadway’s Mean Girls, God Friended Me).
“Ken’s engaging and thought-provoking short stories pave the way for a deeply gripping series, and I couldn’t ask for a greater group of talented voices to bring these complex characters to life,” said Silverstein.
The short stories from Ken Liu were centered around the concept of Uploaded Intelligence, or, human consciousness uploaded to the ‘Cloud’.
The show Pantheon has been created and written by showrunner Craig Silverstein (Turn, Nikita, Terra Nova) with Liu serving as consulting producer and Titmouse Inc., animation studio also attached.
What’s the plot?
Pantheon begins with a bullied teen Maddie (Chang) who suddenly receives mysterious help from a stranger online.
The stranger is soon revealed to be her recently-deceased father, David (Kim), whose consciousness has been uploaded to the Cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan.
David is the first of a new kind of being: an “Uploaded Intelligence” or “UI”.
However, the show soon expands into an unfolding global conspiracy that threatens to trigger a new kind of world war.
