What are Makima’s powers? Control Devil Abilities Explained
We can see that Makima is a powerful force to be reckoned with, asserting control over individuals with ease.
When she meets Denji for the first time and notices him in his Chainsaw Man form, she threatens to kill him if he doesn’t become her human pet, offering him little to no choice in the matter. However, her confidence in her own abilities is not unfounded.
Makima is neither a devil fiend nor a devil hybrid but the Control Devil herself. She’s a pure devil who simply looks like a human. Being a devil gives her an endless number of abilities, ranging from enhanced senses to manipulation of force and the minds of other creatures.
What are Makima’s devil abilities?
Since Makima is a devil, she has an upper hand over fiends and hybrids. She doesn’t hesitate to use her power either if she considers a being to be inferior to her. Check out the abilities she possesses.
- Brainwashing
Makima can control the minds of other people by coercing them to enter into contracts with her or other devils and erase their memories. She can even alter their personalities, which is evident from the way she made Quanxi and her other enemies feel affectionate towards her.
- Enhanced senses
She can distinguish people through her sense of smell and eavesdrop over remote conversations by controlling inferior life forms.
- Telepathy
She can transmit her voice into the minds of others by placing her hand on their head. This ability can be used with even dead people. She uses this ability to communicate with other devils most of the time.
- Teleportation
Using her power to control lower life forms such as rats, she can cluster them together into a person and use them to move from one place to another at an incredible speed.
- Force Manipulation
Makima controls an invisible force around her to kill her targets before they can even realize it. The target gets crushed into a splatter of blood even at a long distance. She needs to perform small rituals to use this ability, such as blindfolding the people around her and pointing at the target.
- Standard devil abilities
Makima also possesses the standard devil ability to revive herself and form contracts even without their consent, unlike other devils. However, this doesn’t mean that she won’t die. She can be killed but, the concept of Control Devil never dies.
This is why even though Makima does die when Chainsaw Man kills her in Part 1, but she gets reincarnated as Nayuta again.
How strong is Makima in Chainsaw Man?
Makima can take on several opponents at once without relying on her subordinates. She has superhuman hearing and she can differentiate people through her sense of smell. Her level of strength is only inferior to Chainsaw Devil and Darkness Devil.
She is so powerful that she even managed to break Pochita’s chainsaws once. Even Chainsaw Man had to use the power of the Blood Devil to actually beat her. She also managed to hurt the Darkness Devil by just using her index finger.
Who is Makima’s Devil? An insight into the Control Devil
The Control Devil is a devil who was born out of the fear of control. Control Devil has the ability to control the bodies and minds of people who it thinks are inferior to itself. This is why Makima who’s the Control Devil herself, was unable to control Chainsaw Devil and Darkness Devil.
There are two incarnations of Control Devil. Makima is the original incarnation and Nayuta is her reincarnation after Makima was killed by Chainsaw Man. Nayuta is taken under the wing of Denji so she doesn’t turn into someone similar to Makima.
The original Control Devil, Makima, was so strong that she was nearly immortal. She coerced the Prime Minister of Japan to let her deaths get transferred to a random citizen in Japan in exchange of letting her work for the country. The Chainsaw Devil killed her many times, but she survived.
Not much is known about Nayuta who’s the current incarnation of Control Devil, except that she shares the same feeling of affection her predecessor felt toward the dogs as well as a desire to form familial bonds.
She also distinguishes people by her sense of smell, which is evident from the way she bites Denji’s finger in a similar way as Makima.

Chainsaw Man is a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that was serialized from December 2018-2022. The series is supposed to receive an anime series by MAPPA. A second part of the manga has also been announced
The manga’s plot revolves around Denji, an orphaned boy who has to work as a devil hunter to make a living and pay off his father’s debt.
However, his pet devil, Pochita is killed on a mission. Denji wakes up to realize he and Pochita have become a single being, Chainsaw Man. If he does not want to get killed, he has to join the government and continue hunting demons.
