One Piece Chapter 1059 Breakdown and What to Expect Next!
The number of characters that make a comeback in chapter 1059, is quite honestly, insane.
So much happened in the latest chapter that could never have been predicted. I mean, did you expect to see a certain Dark Knight return, because I certainly didn’t.
Apart from other major cameos, there are some shocking new developments that promise to make the future of One Piece more riveting than we had imagined.
Today, I’m going to break down everything that went down in chapter 1059 and what we can expect next.
1. Blackbeard and Koby Fight Over Boa Hancock
The most important event of chapter 1059, The Incident of Captain Koby, is the flashback that takes us to Amazon Lily, to the point when the Shichibukai has just been disbanded. As the Marines surround the isle to capture Boa Hancock, Blackbeard arrives to steal her power.
The Marines, headed by vice-admiral Yamakaji, have already destroyed the huge mountain in the center of the island, and threaten to further damage the city.
Just then, the Blackbeard Pirates appear behind the Marine warships, producing a powerful seaquake capable of awakening even the Sea Kings.
Marine captain, Koby, who has been dispatched to reason with Hancock, comments that he isn’t surprised to see another pirate crew waiting to take a piece of the former Warlords.
After the Cross Guild between Crocodile and Mihawk, Hancock and Weevil are the only two ex-Warlords unaccounted for.
Pirate Empress Boa Hancock is one of the strongest women in One Piece, and with her stunning Paramecia-type Devil Fruit Mero Mero no Mi, it’s not a wonder that Blackbeard is here to snatch her power.
This means that in chapter 956, after the Reverie news broke out, when Blackbeard said he wanted to “claim the prize” before the Marines could, he was talking about Boa Hancock, not the Ancient Weapon Pluton.
This makes me glad because Blackbeard’s whole thing has been chasing the world’s strongest Devil Fruits; him going after one of the strongest Paramecia-type fruits is bang on character.
On the other hand, Koby tries to take Hancock without the use of violence, but Hancock simply states that she’d never submit to captivity, not Blackbeard’s and not the Marine’s.
2. New Pacifista Model: Seraphim Revealed
The Marines are well aware how powerful the Kuja are and have brought only the best to capture their Snake Princess. A new Pacifista model called Seraphim manages to threaten even Yonko Blackbeard.
This new PX-? seems to be the result of Vegapunk’s modified human weapons made using King the Lunarian’s genetics merged with the lineage factor of the Warlords. We can see the PX mark of Seraphim-Mihawk’s chest as he is attacking Blackbeard.
The Seraphim that attacks and defeats Blackbeard’s crew single-handedly is a child with white hair, brown skin, and black wings, who looks exactly like the child-version of Mihawk, drawn by Oda in an SBS. The Seraphim also carries a sword that looks a lot like Mihawk’s.
The World Government is looking to replace the Shichibukai with these command-able robot versions of the former Warlords.
Just one of them is able to push Blackbeard himself into using his Yami Yami no Mi and Advanced Armament Haki.
The Seraphim even goes on a rampage, almost breaking the bodies of the Marines that Boa Hancock had turned to stone – until Koby orders the Seraphim to stop.
The other Seraphim-Warlord we see is that of Boa Hancock. The crazed Pacifista kid-version of Hancock, fought against Marigold and Sandersonia.
The new Pacifistas, i.e., the Seraphims, seem to still be unstable, since Yamakaji had instructed his men to record what happens once they had been deployed. Vegapunk’s creations just seem to be getting better and more advanced.
3. New Bounties for Teach and Hancock
The last couple of chapters have been all about new bounties. This week’s chapter doesn’t disappoint.
Oda reveals the bounty of the former Warlord Pirate Empress Boa Hancock to be 1.659 berries, and Emperor Marshall D. Teach aka Blackbeard’s bounty to be 3.996 billion.
4. Boa Hancock’s Devil Fruit is OP
As we know, Blackbeard only goes after Devil Fruits that are the most powerful in the world. He took Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit and wanted Kaido’s.
The fact that he crossed the Calm Belt and came all the way to Amazon Lily, proves that Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi is indeed formidable.
Even before Blackbeard came, she had been resisting the Marine warships that had been continuously invading her island.
Hancock petrifies vice-admiral Yamakaji, Helmeppo and basically all of the Marines on Amazon Lily except Koby. She also turns most of Blackbeard’s crew into stone.
Hancock tells him that if he killed her, even though he would inherit her power, he wouldn’t be able to release his crew.
“My beauty is what makes this power formidable!
Hancock says that if they all leave the island, she’ll turn them back to normal. Blackbeard does not believe her.
He says that as soon as he lets her go, she would turn him into stone. Blackbeard being Blackbeard, doesn’t really care about his crew, whom he calls morons. He wants the Fruit and the power, no matter the lives lost.
5. Rayleigh Arrives to Save the Day
Silvers Rayleigh, the right-hand-man of Pirate King Gol D. Roger, arrives just as Blackbeard has made up his mind to kill Boa Hancock. It is later revealed that just due to his mere reputation, he was able to avoid a fight and command both sides of invaders to depart from Amazon Lily.
Rayleigh says that since he’s gotten so old, he doubts he could win a one-on-one with Blackbeard.
He did manage to make Blackbeard shit his pants though and that sweat trickling down Teach’s face sure was fun to watch.
Rayleigh called Teach Whitebeard’s old apprentice, saying:
“I know it’s immature to admit this, but I really don’t like you.”
He asked Hancock to de-petrify everyone and said that he wouldn’t allow any funny business and sent the invaders packing.
6. Former Amazon Lily Empress Revealed
The former Empress of Amazon Lily 2 generations ago is revealed to by Shakuyaku, who was also the captain of the Kuja Pirates before Boa Hancock.
As we know, Rayleigh befriended the Hancock sisters after helping them escape from the World Nobles. Before this, Rayleigh had met Shakuyaku, helping her open Shakky’s Rip-off Bar in Sabaody.
This is a good parallel because just as ex-Empress Shakky fell for Rayleigh, a pirate, current-Empress Hancock fell for Luffy.
7. Koby Gets Kidnapped by Blackbeard
At the end of the chapter, it is revealed that after Rayleigh arrived at Amazon Lily, Blackbeard decided to flee, but not before kidnapping captain Koby.
Earlier, Teach had taunted Koby by saying that he had done him a favor at Rocky Port, due to which he could defeat Ouchoku and invade Pirate Island.
After Blackbeard takes Koby as a hostage, the word spreads around the world. The “Hero” Koby’s current status is unknown.
8. Oda Confirms Prominence of New Generation
Chapter 1059 gives us a glimpse of Marco bidding Luffy farewell, telling him, “The times belongs to you youngsters now!”
And Luffy isn’t the only youngster Marco is talking about. The Red Hair Pirates, are giving Marco a lift to Sphinx, Whitebeard’s homeland. Shanks tries to convince Marco to join his crew and Marco tells him to stop dreaming. He also says:
I’m way too old and worn out to keep playing babysitter for you “great” pirates.
Shanks says it’s not like he’s a handful, but according to the reactions of his crewmates like Benn Beckman and Lucky Roux, it seems like he sure is – much like Luffy.
9. Yamato is the Protector of Wano
A flashback at the start of the chapter gives us another clue to Yamato’s decision to stay back in Wano. Even though she says she’s wants nothing more than to be one of Luffy’s crewmates, she has to stay in Wano Kuni.
Yamato recognizes that Admiral Ryokugyu only fled Wano thanks to the person who caused the immense burst of Conqueror’s Haki (whom we know to be Shanks).
Kaido’s absence has now opened up the floodgates for people like Greenbull to pour into the country. This is especially dangerous because Pluton is in Wano.
Yamato’s maturity is commendable in this flashback, given how much she yearns to go out at sea. She knows that it would be wrong to abandon everyone, considering that Momonosuke, even though he’s the shogun with a grown-up’s body, is still just a child.
She tells Luffy that it’s better if she stays back because otherwise neither would them would be able to enjoy their adventures given that they’d always be worrying over Wano.
10. What can we expect next?
Chapter 1059 has opened the doors to a series of possibilities as to where the series and the next arc could be heading.
Yamato staying on to protect Wano and follow in Oden’s footsteps could be a great way to see people like Greenbull i.e., other admirals, try and invade Wano – and perhaps even try and steal Pluton.
If the Marines get their hands on Pluton, there’s nothing stopping Blackbeard from fighting them to take over it. Especially now that he has kidnapped Marine captain Koby.
On the other hand, Blackbeard kidnapping Koby might also lead to an alliance between Garp and Luffy against Marshall D. Teach, just like Garp and Roger against Xebec D. Rocks.
We are also likely to see more Shichibukai Seraphims, including those of Jinbe, Buggy, Crocodile, Gecko Moria, Law, Doflamingo, and Blackbeard himself.
Imagine Blackbeard going up against Seraphim-Blackbeard. That would be awesome.
We can also expect not to hear about Blackbeard and Koby for at least a few chapters; Oda teased us with Sabo and Dragon in chapter 1058 but we got no news from them in 1059.
There’s also a possibility that Crocodile and Mihawk approach Boa Hancock to join the Cross Guild, which she might, because she wouldn’t be serving anyone in reality, even if the world thought they were working under Yonko Buggy.
11. About One Piece
One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.
The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!
Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
