Haruko Ichikawa creates both the text and the artwork for this series. People of the future who are completely encased in jewels are called “gems,” and the setting is both bizarre and distant. A new jewel-like species that fights against the Moon people is the focus of this fantasy manga set on Earth several hundred years in the future. One of the best things about Land of the Lustrous is its fantastic, non-binary cast. There is a risk of harmful generalizations being made when Gems are depicted as aliens with humanoid bodies. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community have found meaning in the film’s sincerity, depth, and the authenticity of the characters’ experiences. Here you will find information on how to enjoy this fantastic narrative and multimedia presentation.
What Is The Plot Of Land Of The Lustrous Anime?
We are transported to an era when meteors struck Earth six times, leaving behind radically different landscapes each time and just one island. Over time, new races like the Jewels appear; they share a lot of our appearance but are indestructible. Phosphophyllite (yes, that’s his real name) is our hero. Phos’s relative weakness makes it completely ineffective against their sworn enemies, the Moon People (Lunarians). She has a softness of 3, making her easily broken.
Phos is still eager to show her worth on the battlefield, though. So, the “hardness” of the substitutes determines how effective they are in combat. The prevailing idea in this fantasy manga is that one’s worth increases in proportion to their strength and invulnerability.

Tomoyo Kurosawa and Mikako Komatsu reprise their roles as Phosphophyllite and Shinsha, respectively, from the anime adaptation of Haruko Ichikawa’s original manga in a new promotional video for the twelve volume set. This year marks the return of the manga to serialization after a hiatus of five years. In October 2012, Haruko Ichikawa’s manga Land of the Lustrous debuted in Monthly Afternoon. After nearly two and a half years between books, the twelfth volume is finally here.
In the novel’s far future, Earth is struck by six meteors. This resulted in the extinction of virtually all life on Earth. However, after countless eons, a new race known as the eternal jewel-like Lustrous has emerged. Among the Lustrous, Phosphophyllite (or Phos for short) is the protagonist. In comparison to other gems, their hardness is quite low. Consequently, the majority of precious stones don’t go near them. What they really want, though, is the chance to help their friends in the fight against the Lunarians (or Moon people).
