Amazon Prime Reveals ‘Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye’ Crossover Anime Film
Lupin the Third and Cat’s Eye are two of the most popular franchises from the retro anime era. While Lupin came out earlier than Cat’s Eye, with the latter ending first, both still seem tied in a neck-to-neck competition.
Considering how they were released long ago, these franchises celebrating their debut anniversaries is a sweet treat for fans. Lupin will be toasting to its 50th anniversary this year, while Cat’s Eye will be partying to its 40th.
Amazon Prime Video saw this as a chance to make history and revealed an original crossover anime film, ‘Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye.’ The film will debut on the OTT platform in 2023, and the staff will reveal its running time soon.
Lupin’s signature background music is heard throughout the trailer as Lupin and Hitomi Kisugi encounter each other during a heist. Turns out that Lupin’s opponent this time isn’t the police or a criminal organization, but a thief like him.
While the stories and their protagonists are pretty similar, their aims and backgrounds differ greatly. Lupin is a thief due to his grandfather’s legacy, but Hitomi does it to preserve her long-lost father’s memory and work.
Similarly, the movie’s plot will also be based on three paintings left behind by Hitomi’s father. Hitomi, along with her sisters Rui and Ai, will engage in a fierce battle of wits and trickery with Lupin to acquire those paintings.
Moreover, TMS is in charge of the anime’s production, with Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita as co-directors. Kanichi Kurita and Keiko Toda are returning to play their roles as Lupin III and Hitomi Kisugi, respectively.
