The fight between two superior mages is about to begin in Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Episode 21 as Old Man Denken will take on the Legendary Mage Frieren who was a member of the party that defeated the Demon King.
In the last episode, we saw that Ubel was fighting against Wirbel and he was not able to stop all the attacks from her magic as she cut physical objects. Wirbel then figured out that she had a range of about five meters. The girl from his group was up against Fern and when Fern used multiple attacks at once she found herself in trouble and it was unbelievable for her. Wirbel then cast a binding spell on Ubel and she was not able to move and could not control her mana either.
Wirbel then asked Ubel to drop Stille and leave but she figured that he could only bind her if she was in his field of vision. She then tossed the bird in the air and went for an attack. The attack landed and then we got to know a little about Wirbel’s past. Ubel then understood that the time she was given, Wirbel used to prepare himself to kill the person he was fighting. As he was about to kill Ubel, Fern showed up and he was not able to believe that Fern beat Ehre.
He then asked Fern about Ehre and she lied to him that she killed her. Wirbel then left the place as the rule of the exam stated that they must have a Stille and all the party members present so he failed the test already. Fern then asks Ubel to go help Land but Ubel knows his true nature and tells Fern that he is a pretender who pretends to be weak. Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Episode 20 Recap
In the previous episode, we saw that the fifth party was sidelined by the fourth party. Ehre was not able to stand against the attacks from Fern’s ordinary magic as she used multiple attacks at a single time to overwhelm her. Wirbel was about to kill Ubel but then Fern showed up and told him that Ehre died in the battle and then he left the place as he thought they were disqualified from the exam.
Land who seemed weak at first glance, was hiding his abilities and his opponent was fighting a clone all this time. Defeating him was quite easy feat for him. Wirbel then revealed that he fought demons as he had his motives and it was because of love. He promised the girl he loved as a kid that he would kill all the demons so that she could come back to the village.
Then the fight came back to Denken and Frieren. The girl from Denken’s party stole Stille using her high speed but she left too many mana traces behind and Denken and the other guy were to stop them from chasing the girl. Then a new character Serie was introduced who started this exam and she would give any one spell in the world to whoever achieves the title of First-rank Mage.
She is a living grimoire and knows every spell. Richter wanted to kill Kanne and Lawine so they get disqualified but Denken was against it and ordered him to put them to sleep while he would fight Frieren. The battle will start in the upcoming episode.
