In the last episode, we saw that Master Jinshi came up with a strange request and asked Maomao to do the makeup for him. He wanted to look like common people and Maomao gave her best. She also tried to turn him into a woman but that would have been too troublesome for everyone. Maomao used several methods and things to change the appearance and voice of Master Jinshi.
Gaoshun then came to Maomao with a request to accompany Master Jinshi on his way as Maomao was also headed the same way. She was going to visit her father and she had to agree to that request. The Apothecary Diaries Episode 17 Recap
In the previous episode, we saw that Master Jinshi wanted Maomao to do his makeup and make him look like a commoner so that he could freely move outside the rear palace without getting noticed. Maomao gave her all and was able to change his appearance where he was almost not recognizable. She focused on his body shape, his odor, his clothes, his hair, and all the other things.
She also got the idea of turning him into a woman but she realized that it would be chaotic if she did that. After the makeup, Maomao was about to leave for her village but Gaoshun requested her to accompany Master Jinshi to the restaurant where he was about to meet someone. Maomao then turned into a pretty woman and they acted like a married couple.
They discussed various things during the trip. Maomao talked about her father and how she wants to take care of him as he is the one who taught her about medicines. She also revealed that he is a master of all kinds of medicines and studied abroad. Master Jinshi was curious about the courtesans and how their life works and Maomao explained this to Master Jinshi.
