On Monday, Netflix Japan released a trailer announcing the anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura’s Garoden novels, titled Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf. The series will premiere worldwide on the streaming service on May 23. The anime’s trailer with English subtitles is also available for streaming on Netflix Anime’s YouTube channel.
The series is based on the 13 novels from the Garouden series. The show features intense action scenes depicting martial arts while following the story of Juzo, a fighter escaping his past.
What Is Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf Trailer About?
As shown in the trailer, Juzo is compelled to participate in an underground fighting tournament like no other. With his expertise in Takemiya-ryu, he faces formidable opponents and battles his inner demons. Meanwhile, the repercussions of a past crime resurface, putting a three million yen bounty on his head. Led by Juzo, the Garouden anime vividly portrays the various fighting styles seen in the show.
Netflix emphasizes the show’s authenticity by stating that every movement you see on screen realistically replicates traditional martial arts like Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and more. Additionally, the trailer features intense metal music choices that evoke the atmosphere of battle. It seems like they’re on the right path to capturing the gritty tone of underground martial arts.
Atsushi Ikariya, known for his work on Sabikui Bisco and Special Kid Factory, is directing the anime at NAZ. Daisuke Mataga serves as the assistant director, and Sadayuki Murai is responsible for the scripts of Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf. Ikariya is also designing the characters alongside Momoko Kawai. Takeshi Ueda, under his music project AA=, performs both the opening theme song “FIGHT & PRIDE” and the ending theme song “CRY BOY.”
