With the release of its first season, the show gained immense popularity worldwide and a huge fandom. The first season, also known as Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, covers chapters 1-52 of the manga.
The story revolves around a teenager named Tanjiro Kamado, whose ultimate urge is to take revenge against the demon who slaughtered his family and turned his younger sister, Nezuko, into a demon. A demon slayer corps runs to kill those demons.
On one snowy day, Tanjiro goes to sell charcoal in a nearby town. While he is in the town, a demon breaks into his home and kills his whole family. Returning home, Tanjiro discovers that only his little sister, Nezuko, is alive. But sadly, she is a demon now.
While controlling her, he is confronted by Tomiko Giyu, a member of the elusive Demon Slayer Corps, a corp only meant to kill demons and is operated secretly. While fighting, Tanjiro passes out. Nezuko shielding and protecting Tanjiro confuses Giyu. Giyu sends Tanjiro and Nezuko to Mount Sagiri to train with Sakonji Urokodaki, a former water hashira.
Training with Urokodaki
Unaware of the hurdles and difficulties of joining the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjiro became a demon slayer. Tanjiro’s main motive is to turn his little sister back into a human and take revenge for his family. He went through rigorous training. The training includes hurdles like dodging traps, avoiding pitfalls, etc. However, the main task is to slice a boulder.
Since it was a challenging task, he failed numerous times. But with the training and guidance of the spirits of the past demon slayers, Sabito and Makomo, he finally slices the boulder into two.
Two years have passed, and Tanjiro is now headed towards the final selection, where he has to pass the final test, i.e., he should survive against the demons. Luckily, he can pass the test.
After the selection, the survivors were given Nichirin swords, uniforms, and a kasugai crow to inform them about their next mission. After returning to Urokodaki, Tanjiro sees that Nezuko has finally woken up from her almost two years of sleep.
Tanjiro, with his little sister, is heads toward his mission with rage and deep resentment.
