Apple TV Binds Leonardo Dicaprio’s Appian Way in First-look Deal

Hollywood’s resilient and revenant star Leonardo DiCaprio is back and ready to talk business. DiCaprio’s production banner Appian Way has signed a first-look deal with Apple. This will follow the production of new TV series and films for the tech giant’s streaming arm Apple TV+.

Appian Way run by DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson, previously had a three-year film deal with Paramount Pictures and, prior to that, worked in collaboration with Warner Bros.

DiCaprio’s production house already has two projects set up at Apple TV Plus – the feature “Killers of the Flower Moon” directed by Martin Scorsese, starring DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. Another project is the thriller series “Shining Girls”, featuring Elisabeth Moss.

Under the company, the Oscar-winning actor and Davisson have also produced acclaimed films like “The Aviator,” “Shutter Island,” “The Ides of March,” “Runner Runner,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Robin Hood” and “Richard Jewell”.

For the likes of me wondering what Appian Way means, it is an ancient Roman road, literally “way”, marking the beginning of development in Europe during the time. According to Wikipedia, Appian Way was the first and most famous of the ancient Roman roads, running from Rome to Campania and southern Italy.

Team Leo, go! Now even Apple is full-fledged with Team Leo and that is what this news is all about. Speaking of which, wondering what exactly is the first-look deal which Leonardo DiCaprio and Apple TV have signed?

A first-look deal basically means that Apple will have first rights on the production and/or distribution of a project by DiCaprio by giving financial support during the development period.

Now sometimes a first-look deal with a blockbuster star also includes terms that DiCaprio will be among the first to be contacted if a project fitting their criteria comes across Apple’s desk. However, there is no official confirmation of the same yet.
