Since Yoriichi was Sun Breather, the flashback would also provide some information about his past. Despite not being able to save his family and never accomplishing everything he set out to do. Yoriichi’s regrets manifested themselves in Sumiyoshi’s pain and sorrow for his comrade, and these emotions were communicated to his descendent in the only way they could have: through his dreams. Tanjiro awoke with tears in his eyes after a traumatic dream he had the night before.
