Teasing Master Takagi-San Live-Action Series: What to Expect
Teasing Master Takagi-San fans, get ready to mark your calendars! The live-action adaptation of Sōichirō Yamamoto’s beloved manga is set to debut exclusively on Netflix with a “director’s cut” of its first two episodes on March 26. If you can’t get enough of Takagi-San’s mischievous pranks and Nishikata’s futile attempts to outsmart her, this is the series you won’t want to miss.
The first and second episodes of the live-action series will stream on Netflix on ‘March 26′, with subsequent episodes debuting weekly. The series is set to premiere on TBS channel’s Drama Stream programming block on April 2 at 11:56 p.m. (10:56 a.m. EDT).
Starring Rui Tsukishima and Soya Kurokawa
Tsukishima, a model for Shueisha’s Seventeen magazine, and Sōya Kurokawa, known for her role in Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Monster, will be playing the lead roles as Takagi and Nishikata, respectively. The live-action series was filmed entirely on location at Kagawa Prefecture’s Shōdo Island, the setting of the earlier anime adaptation.
Talented Directors and Scriptwriters
The live-action series is directed by Rikiya Imaizumi, known for his work on Hōzuki-san Chi no Aneki and Chihiro-san, Just Only Love. He is also co-writing the scripts with Tomoki Kanazawa, the writer for Sanctuary and Sabakan, and Jun Hagimori, the writer for Sabakan. TBS is producing the series in collaboration with FINE Entertainment.
Live-Action Adaptation of a Beloved Manga
Yen Press is releasing the manga in English, and it describes the story as a battle of cunning and youth between the middle schooler Nishikata and his classmate Takagi, who constantly pranks him. The manga is also inspiring a live-action film that will open in Japan on May 31, telling an original story set 10 years after the original manga’s middle school setting.

Exciting Details About the Film
Mei Nagano, known for her roles in My Broken Mariko, Ni no Kuni, Peach Girl, and Burn the House Down, will play the titular Takagi, now a trainee teacher in her alma mater, while Fumiya Takahashi, known for Kamen Rider Zero-One, will play Nishikata, now a gym coach in the same school. Aimer is performing the theme song “Haruka” (Far Away).
Both the live-action series and film adaptations are directed by Rikiya Imaizumi, who is also co-writing the scripts with Tomoki Kanazawa and Jun Hagimori. Takashi Ohmama is composing the music for both adaptations.
A Manga That Keeps You Hooked
Yamamoto’s manga has been a hit since its launch in 2013, with its first television anime adaptation premiering in January 2018. The second season premiered in July 2019, and the third season, Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san 3, premiered in January 2022. The franchise’s anime film, Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie, opened in Japan in June 2022.

If you haven’t seen the anime yet, you can catch up on the first two seasons on Netflix. The third season is available to stream on HIDIVE with an English dub by the returning cast from Funimation’s original dub of the anime’s first season. Sentai Filmworks has also licensed the third season and film, screening the film in the U.S. in August 2022.
