The first episode of the Hinomaruzumou titled “National Treasure Onimaru Kinitsuna” was aired on October 5, 2018 and caught people’s audience from the very first episode.
In the span of next four months, over 24 episodes were released and the last episode was released on Mar 29, 2019 and fans have been eagerly waiting for a season 2 ever since.

How Season 1 ended?
Hinomaru Sumo or Hinomaruzumou is the story of a boy named Ushio Hinomaru aka Onimaru Kinitsuna as his stage name whose single goal in life is to be a Yokozuna, but because of his small height he can never pass the physical test and that is why he needs to beat every school in his prefecture and then go to the nationals and win the nationals to get a direct scholarship to the pros.
Winning the nationals is the only choice Ushio has, if he doesn’t win the nationals, then his hopes of being a Yokozuna will be crushed and thus starts his journey with his new found friends at Odachi high school.
Ushio starts his journey with his friends and finally reaches the nationals where he has to face even tough adversaries and since it’s a team match, he alone cannot win the whole thing.
Season 1 is all about Ushio and his friends training and facing one opponent after another. To win the nationals, Ushio has to defeat Kozu Sosuke, son of the former Yokozuna Yamatokuni.
At the end of the Hinomaru Sumo season 1, we see Ushio going toe to toe against Kozu Sosuke and defeating him, thus securing the third win for his team and defeating Eiga high at the nationals.
Ushio then competed in the All-Japan National Championships where he lost to Tennoji and took third place. Tennoji won the whole thing and earned the right to be become a fifteenth-ranked makushita, while Ushio became a sandanme. Kozu Sosuke announced his entry in the pro leagues as well.
So this is how the first season ended and now fans are eagerly waiting for a Season 2 where we get to see Ushio’s exploits at the pro scene and his journey of becoming a Yokozuna.
Hinomaru Sumo Season 2 Release Date
Even though the anime was loved by fans from all over the world, the sales were very low and that is why fans are debating that maybe there will never be a second season.
But according to many anime critics online, there are high chances of a second season being released. The Second season of the Hinomaru Sumo will feature Onimaru’s journey to becoming a Yokozuna and the hardships he will face in the way.
Even though no Season 2 trailers or any news regarding it has been announced online, we have high hopes of the second season being released in 2021. We expect Hinomaru Sumo Season 2 or Hinomaruzumou S2 release date to be somewhere in June 2021.

Characters For Season 2
Kuze Sosuke- Kuze finally entered the pro scene after finishing the nationals, Ushio and Kuze will meet again at the pro games and Ushio ever wants to become a Yokozuna, he must climb up the ranks and take down many pro wrestlers like Kuze.
Ushio Hinomaru- Ushio is the protagonist of the series. After regular rigorous training and his friends support at the Odachi High, he has finally made a place for himself at the pro scene as a Sandanme. Season 2 of Hinomaru Sumo will be all about Ushio working hard and there will be a time skip as well where we see a totally new look, Ushio has buffed up and looks like a completely new person.
Tennoji Shido- Tennoji Shido ex student and ex-captain of Tottori Hakurou High School is the high school Yokozuna, and has suffered only a single defeat in his high school career and that too at the hands of Kuze Sosuke. After defeating Ushio at the All-Japan championships, Tennoji became a fifteenth rank Makushita and one of Ushio’s prominent rivals.
Kunisaki Chihiro- Chihiro one of Ushio’s teammate at the Odachi high is a genius who has a knock for sports and is very athletic. He is one of the reasons why Odachi high was able to go to nationals and win the whole thing. Will he enter the Sumo pro scene or may his way towards the mixed martial arts? Only the season 2 will tell and we can’t wait to see which route he takes.
As we discussed earlier, Season 2 will most probably get released in June 2021, but nothing has been fixed yet. We still have to wait for any news from its animation studio “Gonzo”.
Anime series like Dragon Ball Super Season 2 and Baki Season 4 are sailing the same boat where nothing regarding the release date and plot has been released and we can’t wait for some good news.
