Kiyo In Kyoto: From The Maiko House Trailer Shares Mouthwatering Food

Kyoto city is quite famous with the otaku community as the prime location for every anime school trip arc to grace our screens. So, when the Japanese broadcaster NHK unveiled its anime project “Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House,” it became a sensation like no other.

The series takes place in the hustle and bustle of the Geisha district in Kyoto and follows the titular character Kiyo as she cooks up delicacies every day to support her friend Sumire and the other maiko (apprentice Geisha).

NHK recently announced on its website that Aiko Koyama’s “Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House” anime would air on Japanese channel NHK E from 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, October 2.

The broadcaster released a new trailer featuring the opening song “Ashita Kitto” by Ayano Tsuji to commemorate the decision.

The “Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House” produced by J.C.Staff premiered worldwide on February 25, 2021, through the NHK World channel and Crunchyroll.

Though the TV anime has been airing monthly with English subtitles, the Japanese audience has only got their hands on it now. So I believe it’s their time to dig in.

About Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House

Written and illustrated by Aiko Koyama, the manga started publishing in the combined Shogakukan’s ‘Weekly Shōnen Sunday’ on December 28, 2016. Shogakukan has compiled the individual chapters into thirteen tankōbon volumes as of March 12.

The story revolves around Kiyo, a native of Aomori who is friends with Sumire, an apprentice geisha. Kiyo takes up work cooking in the geisha lodge in Kyoto’s flower district geisha quarter after finishing junior high and leaving her home. The geishas come to rest and prepare for the new day in this lodging.
