Mamoru Onishii Is Back With Vampire Comedy Anime, Vlad Love

Mamoru Oshii, the famous director behind Ghost in the Shell, is now back with another anime that explores the dark fiction genre.

Vlad Love exhibits some dark elements at first, but it soon shifts to the comedy genre.

Vlad Love discovers the story of a girl who is obsessed with donating blood. So who does she befriend? A vampire of course!

I am happy with the yuri romance, but I don’t know what to feel about setting up a blood donation camp in school to feed a vampire.

Ichigo Animation is producing the anime. The staff has revealed that Vlad Love will debut on 14th February 2021 on Abema and Amazon Prime in Japan. The anime will also be available on some other rental and streaming services.

The anime is listed with 12 episodes and was initially set for an April 2020 release, which was delayed to October and then finally to February 2021. The delay was due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The anime’s first episode had advanced streaming on 20th December 2020. Onishii announced that the anime focuses on five girls, and no prominent male character is present.

Ichigo Animation is the only company investing in the anime quite unlike the norm in conventional anime production procedure in Japan. This system will supposedly give more freedom to directors for producing anime.

About Vlad Love

Vlad Love is an original anime that is being directed by Mamoru Oshii. It will premiere in February 2021.

Mitsugu Bamba, a highschool student, is obsessed with donating blood. She encounters a beautiful girl at the local blood bank.

The girl turns out to be a vampire who can’t bite people. One thing leads to the other, and Mitsugu befriends the girl and opens a blood donation camp at school.
