New ‘Delicious in Dungeon’ Anime Featurette Teases Main Character in May
‘Delicious in Dungeon’, also known as ‘Dungeon Meshi’, is a survival and rescue RPG where players combine dungeon hunting and cookery. A hungry dragon stands between a group of adventurers and their goal of claiming the kingdom buried within the dungeon.
Falin utilizes her magic to send her brother and party leader, Laios, and the others away so that the gang can regroup. She, however, is devoured. The group is desperate to return to her, but they have run out of food and money, so they’ve decided to feast on the creatures inside.
The official website for the ‘Delicious in Dungeon’ anime adaptation revealed a teaser for the main character, Laios, on Monday. On May 25 at 9:00 p.m. JST (8:00 a.m. EDT), the video will debut on Kadokawa’s YouTube channel.
Because the teaser is labeled as the “official trailer” in the thumbnail, we have no idea how lengthy it actually is. According to the official Twitter, more than just Laios and his voice actor will be unveiled.
The animation for the show will be created by Studio Trigger, who also animated Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Delicious in the Dungeon was released by Ryko Kui in 2014. The Manga Taisho Awards considered it for a nomination in both 2016 and 2019. It topped the ‘Kono Manga ga Sugoi’ list of the top 20 shonen manga in 2016.
The manga also made Da Vinci’s list twice (at #13 and #35 respectively) in 2015 and 2020.
The overall impression I get from ‘Delicious in Dungeon’ is that it’s just another spin on the dungeon-delving genre. I’m intrigued to see how they manage to maintain the tone light despite the seriousness of the situation, given that they have to act quickly to save Falin. Not even ‘Campfire Cooking in Another World’ gave you the inside look.
Dungeon Meshi
Ryoko Kui’s Dungeon Meshi is a fantasy gastronomic manga. Publication of it began that year. The English version, titled “Delicious in Dungeon”, is published under a license from the original Japanese publisher, Yen Press. There are a total of 12 volumes available as of August of 2022.
At the beginning of the story, a country is destroyed at sea, and the last monarch offers his kingdom’s treasure to whoever can vanquish the magician responsible for the disaster. As a result, many groups form into guilds, and many individuals embark on this quest.
On one such adventure, the protagonist swears to return with his sister, who he lost to a dragon. Cooking dungeon monsters is essential for his party’s survival as they make their way through the underworld.
