Olympic Athletes Quote Famous Anime Demolishing Stigma Faced by Otakus!

The stigma that otakus face is quite despairing, especially in Japan. Most people are frowned upon and demeaned, which leads to not disclosing their actual interests. I believe this phenomenon was aptly depicted in Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. Okay, maybe it was a little dramatic, but what’s life without some drama?

This, nevertheless, has been boldly crushed by some Tokyo Olympians, who openly quoted lines from some of the famous anime!

In the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020, some medalists have referred to and quoted lines from famous anime such as Fate/Grand Orderin the comments section!

The Chinese athlete, Deng Yu-Cheng who had won a silver medal in archery was asked on Instagram whether he says ‘I am the bone of my sword’ while shooting an arrow. To which he replied, “No, actually I generally say “Stella!!!!”, which are famous lines from the Fate series.

A number of anime such as Re: Zero, KONOSUBA, and A Certain Magical Index have been featured on his Instagram page along with their actual figurines! He has also mentioned that his hobbies include Japanese animation, comics, and mobile games on his official athlete profile of the Olympics games!

Another archer, Takaharu Furukawa referenced a phrase from the anime Is The Order a Rabbit?. He said “My heart feels like it’s bouncing (pyonpyon),” indicating the anime’s opening song “Daydream cafe”. 

If we are being honest here, the feeling of acceptance is one of the best there is and these athletes have made sure that we feel ecstatic. Not only about proudly owning the things we like but also the Olympic games!
