One Piece is getting ready for a major comeback on Netflix. The anime is keeping fans engaged as Netflix is now streaming episodes simultaneously with their release. Meanwhile, attention is also turning towards the live-action adaptation on Netflix, particularly with the upcoming second season.
Recent updates about the new season have surfaced, courtesy of What’s on Netflix, a website dedicated to original content about the series. The report confirms recent news that One Piece season two is set to debut in 2025. It indicates that filming for the season will commence in June 2024.
One Piece Recruits Percy Jackson’s Co-Executive Producer as Co-Showrunner.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that co-showrunner Steven Maeda would be stepping down from his role on One Piece to focus on Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief TV series. Now, the replacement for Maeda has been revealed. Joe Tracz will be joining Matt Owens as co-showrunner and executive producer for One Piece season two.
Tracz is returning to Netflix after his work as a writer-producer on the streamer’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events and as co-creator-executive producer on Dash & Lily. In his statement to Deadline regarding his involvement with One Piece, Tracz mentions his recent experience with literary adaptations and alludes to the Season 2 destination hinted at in the Season 1 finale for the Straw Hat Pirates.
“I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than One Piece,” Tracz said. “I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season One. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season Two.”
