Rurouni Kenshin: Saishūshō The Final is the first film of the two live-action films scheduled for the series.

The film will reportedly feature a plotline that is quite different from that of the manga. It will have an original storyline and will premiere in Japan on 23rd April 2021.

The first film will focus on the Jinchu arc of the manga. Kenshin and his conflict with Enshi, the mysterious weapon dealer, will be elaborated on in this arc.

Rurouni Kenshin was supposed to release two live-action films in 2020. However, the films were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Takeru Satoh, the actor who plays the role of Kenshin, commented that at first, the staff were really worried about whether Nobuhiro Watsuki will like the decision of the original script.

However, Watsuke, later on, acknowledged that the story was up to the mark and he could feel immersed in it.

The second part of the live-action series, Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Beginning, will premiere on 4th June 2021 in Japan.

The first live-action film of Rurouni Kenshin premiered in Japan in 2012 and two sequels premiered in 2014. Funimation streamed the films in theatres in the United States in 2016.

Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original anime aired in Japan from 1996-1998 and spawned several other anime and film projects.

About Rurouni Kenshin

It is a Japanese manga series penned and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1994 to 1999.

A TV anime adaptation was also broadcast to 1996 to 1998, and it even has an anime film along with numerous video projects.

The English manga version was published by Viz Media, and the English anime version was released by Media Blasters.

The story revolves around a former assassin who, after going against the feudal government, changed his name to Himura Kenshin and changed into a wandering swordsman who protects the people of Japan. He made a vow to never take another life.
