‘SAO -Progressive-‘ 2nd Anime Film’s Visual Reveals September Debut

Even after so many mixed reviews and heavy criticism, Sword Art Online continues to baffle weebs with storylines and characters they can’t get enough of. I know the anime has fallen short in many instances, but it somehow always came up with something new and intriguing.

To compensate for the lousy writing and plot holes, the franchise came up with the Progressive movie series, an expanded retelling of the Aincrad arc.

After Aria of a Starless Night, based on the light novel’s first volume, its sequel is here to tell us about Kirito and Asuna’s adventure on Aincrad’s fifth level.

Sword Art Online -Progressive- Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk) has unveiled the film’s first key visual, revealing its September 10, 2022 premiere.

The visual features a beautiful background of fireworks in the night sky, with Asuna and Kirito enjoying the views. They might look happy now, but the pair has no idea what’s waiting for them on the fifth floor.

As described in the light novel, Aincrad’s 5th floor’s most notable location is Karluin, the main settlement. It is a city with incredible artifacts, history, and architecture that resembles the old times.

Since the anime didn’t show much of Karluin and the 5th floor, I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us.

Moreover, to celebrate the franchise’s ten-year anniversary, the staff has revealed a special program, ‘TV Anime Sword Art Online 10th Anniversary!’ will be broadcast in Japan on July 1, 2022. It will disclose more information about the upcoming movie and the ‘SAO Selection’ rerun from July 9, 2022.

To make it extra special, the Ueno Mori Museum in Tokyo will put up a ‘The Art of Sword Art Online’ exhibit from 2-25 July, 2022.

I’m glad that the franchise decided to give us a detailed version of the Aincrad arc because the plot holes and unexplained actions were getting really frustrating.

Just pray that they don’t mess this one up.

About Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.

The series occurs in the near future and focuses on the protagonist “Kirito” Kirigaya Kazuto and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds.

At the launch of the game, 10,000 people had connected themselves to the virtual reality of Sword Art Online. The plot takes a twist when people realize that they can’t quit the game.

Protagonist Kirito, a pro gamer and was present for the beta launch of SAO, starts planning to clear levels as soon as possible. Throughout his quest to finish the game, he meets many friends and also a love interest, Asuna.

The plot and the whole premise of the show are remarkably unique and quite believable in some futuristic sense.
