‘Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys’ Trailer Highlights MCs’ Chaotic Training Days

There are already plenty of anime series based on the Shinsengumi, but the plot twist of Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys will have you excitedly looking forward to this show.

Shinsengumi, or Bakumatsu period’s special police force, is mysteriously wiped out by a powerful but unknown assailant. With no other option left, it is decided that seven criminals will replace the force and be trained by the Shinsengumi’s sole survivor as a top-secret mission.

The Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys’ original anime will come out on July 8, 2022, and the new promotional video gives us a glimpse into the criminals’ chaotic training days.

The first half of the video previews the anime’s opening theme song, ‘Ichiban Hikare! -Bucchigire!-‘ (Shine the Brightest! Cleave Through) by Takanori Nishikawa. It shows Heisuke Todo, the only surviving member of the Shinsengumi, as he struggles with training the disorderly criminals who are to replace his fallen comrades.

As Todo tries to hone their individual skills, he also faces a tough time disciplining them to act like elite warriors. Although he cares about his new teammates, they all seem to test Todo’s patience a lot, especially Ichibanboshi.

The trailer’s second-half previews the anime’s ending theme song, ‘Danzai Democracy’ (Judgment Democracy) by Jizō Sonzai. Here we are introduced to Rashōmaru, the story’s main antagonist.

Rashōmaru is responsible for eliminating the Shinsengumi and has appeared again to do the same. He doesn’t know that the force has upgraded their game, and they’re not the same anymore.
