Stage Adaptation of Critically Acclaimed Movie “Himizu” Set for Fall Debut

The upcoming stage play “Himizu” is based on how the human mind can change after a disaster. Surviving a life-threatening situation is just one phase; dealing with the psychological impact of such a situation is a much longer phase that can even last all through one’s life.

Yuichi Sumida is a typical Japanese youth, but his life changed after a single incident in high school. Despite his best, he is unable to get back to his ordinary routine. This is the central theme of the highly anticipated upcoming play.

Time Productions has announced that the play “Himizu” will be staged at Tokyo’s Theater Mixa between September 18 and 26.

Time Productions, the theater company behind critically acclaimed plays like “Lost Child” and “Here and There” will handle the production of the upcoming play. Directed by Hitoshi Tani, the following cast have been confirmed for the play:

The play will be based on Minoru Furuya’s manga which was serialized between 2001 and 2003. A film adaptation was released back in 2011, just after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The script was modified to include the Fukushima Disaster, which was triggered by the earthquake.

Fans have received both the manga and the subsequent film adaptation pretty well. Critics have praised the franchise for its gripping story and raw emotions depicted by the characters. So naturally, fans worldwide are hyped up for the play!

Will Yuichi be able to recover from his past experiences and move on in life? We will find out what happens to him when the play debuts in September!

About Himizu

Himizu is a psychological manga by Furuya Minoru. It was serialization in Weekly Young Magazine from January 2001 to March 2002.

Sumida longs to be the most normal and average person ever. He wants a normal life, normal job and average circumstances all around.

However, his fate wants him to be anything but average. How far is he willing to go to maintain the facade of normalcy?
