Switch Game Ninjala Gets A Surprise Anime Adaptation Next Year
It seems like the new animal-themed season isn’t the only thing Ninjala is bringing us next year. While games get an anime all the time, this was a pleasant surprise.
The Nintendo Switch game Ninjala is getting an anime adaptation in January 2022. GungHo Online Entertainment announced the series in their developer diary video, which features the character sheets for Lucy, Berecca, and Burton.
Studio Hibari and Domerica are co-producing the Ninjala anime.
The game is a multiplayer action game featuring solo battle royales or team battles with different characters and their unique abilities. Although the gameplay is simple, it has quite the lore for a world with pseudo-ninjas.
In times of peace, many ninjas scattered across Japan and started to mingle with other clans. The famous ninja clans started to fade away and gradually disappeared. To preserve their heritage, some surviving descendants formed the WNA (World Ninja Association).
So, WNA developed a bubblegum that allows people with ninja DNA to manifest ninja abilities from their ancestors and battle it out in various tournaments, where the game takes place.
Ninjala had previously released an anime short series on their YouTube channel back in June 2020. This stirred up the demand for a full anime adaptation, which has now manifested itself.
This anime will probably feature the characters’ adventures in the WNA Academy as the previous short series only introduced the main characters.
The game was developed by Soleil, whose parent company Wake Up Interactive was recently acquired by Tencent Holdings.

While it is not confirmed, the adaptation will probably be a series of shorts, considering the lack of an overarching story and the studio’s previous work. Regardless, it is something to look forward to for all Ninjala fans.
