In the 14th Episode of The Apothecary Diaries, we saw that Maomao was back at the rear palace but in a role as she was directly working under Master Jinshi as a court lady. She failed the exam though but she started working right after that. A new consort was at the rear palace and for the training of the new concubine who took the place of Ah-Duo a certain person was recommended by two concubines.
Yeah, you guessed it right, Maomao was given the role and she just could not refuse two concubines’ requests also there was some good money involved so Maomao decided to give it a go. The lesson started and Lady Gyokuyou and Lady Lihua were happy after the female-only lesson but the new concubine Lady Loulan seemed very disinterested in it. It was all over the head for Lady Lishu.
Well, the lesson well went and Maomao was excited too. The same night there was an explosion in a warehouse and a person was injured. Soon the trouble found Maomao again but this time she was very much interested and she investigated the scene where Lihaku was summoned to check out the place. Maomao then examined the place and then conducted a little experiment that ended up in a small explosion. She concluded that this incident was because the person inside lit a fire to smoke and that caused the explosion.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14 Recap
The previous episode showed that Maomao already got accustomed to her new role but she found the old lady who was serving Master Jinshi quite troubling. A new concubine was also introduced in the last episode. Her name was revealed to be Lady Loulan. Maomao was recommended by two concubines to train the new entry at the rear palace.
The session went well and the concubines enjoyed it except the new lady as she seemed not interested in any of it and Lady Lishu who was striking her head into the walls. There must be something interesting going on inside but neither we know it nor Master Jinshi. Things went pretty smoothly till now and Maomao was okay with how things were going as she changed the price for the course but it was not a problem.
Maomao was excited about the bonus she was about to receive. On the same night, there was an explosion which was suspected of an attack from outside. Soon Maomao got involved as soon as she saw Master Lihaku outside the place. She then used her brain and deduced some things. Then she conducted an experiment that included wheat or some floor just to be sure that what she was thinking was right.
She was right and this floor was the thing that caused the explosion inside the warehouse and injured the warehouseman. She then told Lihaku who got promoted to a new rank that he should ask the man to not smoke inside the warehouses as it might get dangerous.
