The “Haikyu!! Final” Discussion by George Wada at the I.G. Wit Studio Panel

Production The I.G x Wit Studio panel at Anime Expo 2023 was highly anticipated. The largest room in the convention center was reserved for this event, and fans filled it to the very back.

On stage, we had three panelists. Maki Terashima-Furuta, president of Production I.G. USA, started off the list on the left. George Wada, CEO of Production I.G. (Japan), Wit Studio, and VP of Production I.G. USA, was standing next to her. On the right was Production I.G. assistant producer Yko Ueda.

Yko Ueda presided over the meeting and acted as the interpreter. Wada discussed his journey from a job at Cisco to his current position as CEO of Wit Studio and I.G Production.

Many topics were covered, but for the time being we’ll concentrate on Haikyu. This is what Wada said as he showed a slide for “Haikyu!! Final”

Haikyuu!!

Wada stated, without providing any supporting evidence, that “Haikyu!! Final” is a difficult property to make. Keiko Matsushita, the anime’s producer, was adamant that a conclusion film be made since she was invested in seeing the series through to the end.

Furthermore, they pleaded with viewers to “Please stay tuned because you’ll get to see the conclusion.”

The announcement of the fifth chapter of the Karasuno vs. Inarizaki arc became one of the most anticipated things in the community at the conclusion of the fourth season.

There was a wide range of emotions to the announcement of the film’s conclusion.

Some viewers were incredibly psyched about the series conclusion, while others were dubious. They believe the pacing would suffer if they were to include all 110 chapters of the manga’s conclusion in a two-part film adaptation.

It would be premature to judge the film based on early reactions. It could be a complete failure because of problems with the movie’s pacing, or it could be a smash hit because of the talented people that worked on it.

Haikyuu!!

Haruichi Furudate created and draws the manga series Haikyu!! for Japanese readers. 42 tankbon volumes have been released since it first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2012.
