Despite the tons of chapters still left to be adapted, why did The Promised Neverland decide to have a recap episode?

With the second season in progress, the children of the Grace Field house have been facing horrors beyond their darkest nightmares. Outside their shelter, they are as good as meat for sale!

It was recently declared that the next episode of The Promised Neverland anime’s season 2 will be a recap episode. Thus episode 6 will be the recap episode and new content will be adapted starting episode 7.

However, the question still remains, why do we need a recap episode? Although the manga has ended, there are still plenty of chapters that are yet to be adopted.

The first season covered the escape from the Grace Field arc and the second season is not very massive with just 11 episodes. The audience surely doesn’t need a recap of all the incidents already?

No doubt it will be helpful for those who are starting with the second season or have watched the first season a long while back but it does not add anything to the anime.

Needless to say, fans aren’t too pleased about the decision.

Recap episodes are often included in anime through flashbacks of the characters and many anime include the technique.

The Promised Neverland has already suggested some original plot that will be adapted into the anime. Is the recap episode in preparation for the original material?

In episode 5, Ray, Norman, and Emma are reunited and we get to experience what the demons do in their daily lives. A market scene is placed to show demons lamenting about the lack of quality human meat.

The next episode after the recap will show a conflict between the demons and the children who are bound to be discovered.
