The Vow: Docuseries On Cult Gets Second Season

HBO Max has renewed its hit docuseries The Vow for a second season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2021. The series, about a modern-day cult, created such a buzz among viewers that the announcement for the renewal has been made even before the season finale of the first season has aired. The final episode of season one will air on 18th October 2020. Gear up for some more incriminating evidence to be presented in season two!

The first season introduced the audience to the apparently legal NXIVM, a multi-level marketing company that provided personal and professional seminars for self-development and self-awareness. Behind all the fancy words was a secret society and cult, called DOS or The Vow, that trafficked women into sexual slavery and racketeering.

The beginnings of NXIVM can be traced back to the late 1990s. It was started by Keith Raniere, a charismatic motivational speaker, along with Nancy Salzman. What led to the group’s immense following is the scientific approach towards their supposed ‘goal’ of self-improvement. The scientific method combined with Keith and Nancy’s charm lured many high-profile personalities into joining NXIVM, many of whom appear in The Vow.

Allegations of the organization being a cult had floated around for years, but an earnest investigation began when Sarah Edmondson, a Canadian actress, left the group and publicly denounced it. She is one of the key members of the cast in the documentary series. The actress and other former members reveal the malicious activities of the cult, which include branding and psychological torture.

Season two will delve more into Raniere’s inner circle and how things worked in NXIVM. Raniere was arrested in 2019 on multiple charges. His sentencing, scheduled to take place in the fall, might also play a significant role in the second season.

The second season will first premiere on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.

The first season is available on HBO Max as well.
