Tracing Vegeta’s Forms in Dragon Ball History – Canon And Non-canon

Vegeta is one of the most well-written characters in the Dragon Ball universe. He truly showed magnificent character development and claimed our hearts. He never accepted that he is just a side character and worked himself to the bone, and his transformations are here to prove that.

He puts in the hard work and refuses to back down and his transformations show the long way he has come from being an arrogant, self-absorbed Saiyan prince to one of the strongest characters in the franchise.

1. Vegeta Without Transformations Was Still Strong

Even without epic transformations, Vegeta could whoop ass. He was strong even by the standards of his royal bloodline. When he arrived on Earth, Vegeta easily overpowered Goku who was using Kaioken.

You can imagine his raw strength if he was able to defeat an enhanced version of the protagonist.

2. Oozaru Form: Vegeta’s First Ever Transformation

Saiyan race has a special power to transform into a super-sized Ape and this form is activated on seeing a full moon, werewolf much? It is related to blutz waves which are created by sunlight reflected by the moon. In this form, the powers of the user are increased tremendously.

Upon being overpowered by Goku, Vegeta decides to transform. In this state, he completely overwhelms Goku and nearly kills him.

Unlike Goku, who completely loses autonomy and goes into rage mode, Vegeta was able to keep a clear mind. He also showed that his huge form doesn’t hinder him from moving fast, which took Goku by surprise. His one-sided attack was only put to an end after Yajirobe cuts his tail.

3. The Much-Awaited Super Saiyan

Vegeta always pursued the Super Saiyan powers, he was ridden with arrogance and jealousy. His only motivation was “if Kakarot could obtain this form, why can’t I?”. To awaken his powers he trained under 450× gravity to no avail.

Only at the moment, he gave up, he let go, and he was able to achieve what he longed for, what an irony right? However, I think most of us can relate to that, the more we pull, the more the things get away. Sometimes, letting go is the solution. Ahem, sorry for the philosophical break!

Getting back to the topic, Vegeta was able to achieve Super Saiyan by the time Androids arrived.  He effortless overwhelmed them with his new powers and was noted to have surpassed Goku during the time.

I. Vegeta Turns Super Vegeta

After training in the hyperbolic time chamber, and listening to the beautiful monologues by Trunks, Vegeta finally achieves Super Saiyan Second Grade. This is not a separate form but an extension of Super Saiyan.

He was able to understand a few nuances of Super Saiyan mode and perfect it just a little more. He knew not to inflate himself, which was the reason for the power leak. He transformed into this mode, and we could see the Shockwaves created were destroying the landscape.

In this form, he was easily able to overpower Semi-perfect Cell but later lost, due to his overconfidence. We also do not get to see this form, as Goku realized its vulnerabilities.

4. The Most Evil Form: Majin Vegeta Enters!

Vegeta trains himself until he reaches 500 times the gravity of Earth. However, when he gets a glimpse of Goku’s powers, he lets the jealousy get better of him and allows Babidi to take control of him.

The dark powers awakened the dormant evil in Vegeta’s heart, and this Saiyan Prince turned evil. His inherent strength was boosted, and he became all the more powerful. He was able to take on Goku’s Super Saiyan 2 powers easily.

In later stages, when he combated Majin Buu, he could not hold the candle to him, and ultimately decided to sacrifice himself.

5. Enraged Vegeta Turns Super Saiyan 2

Vegeta trains harder until the max gravity setting no longer affects him.  He unlocks his Super Saiyan 2 mode during his battle with Beerus, God of Destruction after he slaps Bulma.

We see that Vegeta is enraged and we know how much he cares for his wife. It was almost impossible to believe how much this egotistical Saiyan Prince changed and started to care for others.

After the power-up, Vegeta Landa had quite a few hits on The God of Destruction. This feat is truly remarkable as even Super Saiyan 3 Goku was not able to achieve it.

6. Vegeta Becomes Saiyan Beyond God

It is an empowered state of the Saiyan who can use the powers of the Super Saiyan God without having to change their form.

Despite what the name indicates, it does not give the user God-like powers, however, enables them to sense Godly Ki. This state is like a prelude to the actual Super Saiyan God form. This state also requires absolute Ki control to maintain it which might prove to be demanding.

7. Shattering His Limits Vegeta Reaches Super Saiyan Blue

Super Saiyan Blue is a transformation that allows the user to access the power of God. It is the successor of Super Saiyan and is immensely powerful.

After training with Goku, Vegeta unlocks this form and is easily able to knock the gold off, Golden Frieza, quite literally.

He also battled Goku Black and was able to overwhelm him in his base form. However, the tables turned when Black transformed into Super Saiyan Ross. He was eventually able to defeat his foe after training in the hyperbolic time chamber.

I. Super Saiyan Blue( Perfected)

Vegeta challenges Beerus to a fight where he initially gets annihilated until he reveals that he can use a perfected form of Super Saiyan Blue.

However,  Beerus still defeats Vegeta in one blow but acknowledges Vegeta’s strength.

II. Vegeta Evolves Beyond Super Saiyan Blue

Against Jiren, Vegeta evolves and achieves a greater form than his perfected version. This power does not come in response to desire but to a need.

He does not care about the DragonBalls nor is he trying to chase Goku. All he cares about is the promise he gave to another Saiyan, the need to protect his universe. Vegeta was able to shock Jiren by landing a blow on him in this state.

8. Super Saiyan God

Super Saiyan God is a transformation that grants its user a God-level Ki and is considered more powerful than Super Saiyan 3 transformation.

Vegeta displayed the ability to transform into this form without any time limit. This form was also able to overcome the stamina issues that come with the Super Saiyan Blue form.

9. Golden Oozaru

This form is essentially a combination of Great Ape form and Super Saiyan. Looking at the full moon while in Super Saiyan form is a prerequisite for activation.

It is also thought that Super Saiyan 3 is necessary for achieving Golden Oozaru. However, Vegeta was still able to get it without having Super Saiyan 3.

10. Super Saiyan 4

This is a dangerously powerful form, achieved by condensing the entire power of Golden Oozaru.

Vegeta gains this power after using Bulma’s Blutz wave generator after seeing Goku get thrashed by Omega Shenron.

11. Ultra-Ego

Ultra-Ego is the strongest form of Vegeta to date. It allows the Ki of its user to become the same as that of a God of Destruction. It is also considered to be an opposite form and antithesis to Ultra Instinct.

12.Conclusion

Dragon Ball transformations get your adrenaline pumping. They are wacky, epic and ridiculous. The greatest thing about Vegeta is the way he never refuses to back down. He does not accept being a side character.

He works hard and grows to become one of the strongest characters which makes him truly inspiring.
