Unexpected Love Story of Thorfinn and Gudrid from Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga features numerous high-stakes fights and dramatic climaxes. That’s OK by me, but it makes me and a few others wonder if Thorfinn will ever find someone to share his life with romantically.
while Thorfinn’s quest for revenge on his father is the primary emphasis of the series, the romantic undertones are not hidden. And most significantly, our flawed protagonist is curiously drawn to one particular character. So, I’ll fill you in on the details of what follows.
Thorfinn’s lone significant other in the Vinland Saga is his wife, Gudrid. She escaped an arranged marriage and went to Vinland with Thorfinn. Gudrid’s revelation in chapter 160 of the manga sparked their romance. After the time jump, they decide to get married.
While Thorfinn’s quest for vengeance is the main focus of Vinland Saga, the story really shines during the tender moments of romance between him and Gudrid.
Their relationship’s evolution is proof that two people may fall in love while facing formidable obstacles.
Who is Gudrid?
Gudrid, a widow, had her second marriage to a guy she had no interest in marrying arranged for her. She was not ready to give up her independence and settle down with a man she didn’t love like other women of her time. She would have none of being held down and so she opted to travel with Thorfinn and his companions to the East.
Her ex-husband Sigurd didn’t take her decision to join Thorfinn and his friends on the Eastern Expedition lying down.
Immediately after the Ketil Farm/Slave arc is the Eastern Expedition arc, in which Gudrid first appears in chapter 101. To see Thorfinn’s future wife, anime fans will have to wait until at least season 3.
Thorfinn brings his wife and kid to Iceland in the final episode of the Eastern Expedition Arc, titled “Wedding.” The wedding reception was a lavish feast to celebrate the happy couple’s new life together.
Thorfinn and Gudrid’s love grew over the time jump, and they made a lifelong commitment to one other. They finally made it official and tied the knot on their trip to the Far East. With open arms, they took Karli in and raised him as one of their own.
Does Thorfin have any kids?
In the rubble of their house, Thorfin found Karli and his dying mother. A mutual friend of Lief’s, Arngrim, has a son named Karli. Karli’s mom died in the attack on Arngrim by the Vikings who had sided with Gisli. The plan for Thorfinn and his crew’s journey to Miklagard was to find him a new home there.
Karli’s unexpectedly positive impact on the trip was not anticipated, but he ended up becoming a crucial member of the crew. Thorfinn and Gudrid fell deeply in love with the child and made the decision to raise him as their own.
The impending birth of another child was foreshadowed in a recent chapter with the announcement of Gudrid’s pregnancy. Gudrid will likely give birth to Snorri, as was shown in the original legend.
