10 Old Anime Shows That You Should Still Watch or Watch Again!

Anime has been popular for many years. In the entertainment industry, in particular, trends tend to fade over time. Perhaps what was all the rage a few years ago is now boring and unoriginal.

Only a small percentage of works ever produced can be considered classics. While we might have read a few of these classics as kids, we might have missed out on others.

If you’re bored with your usual fare and craving a change, try one of these 10 timeless anime series instead.

Classics evoke a feeling of nostalgia and have their own special allure. They’ve also stood the test of time and continued to be useful. Such timeless favorites as HunterHunter, Mushishi, Monster, and Samurai Champloo are sure to remain popular.

10. Hunter× Hunter

If you’re looking for a classic anime to watch or rewatch, look no further than HunterHunter. An excellent story, with well-rounded characters, makes for an engrossing read. Put some effort into it; you won’t regret it.

Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it, and I think it would have been more popular if more people had known about it. The manga’s huge gaps in continuity were the only real drawback.

Storyline:

The protagonist of HunterHunter is a young man named Gon, who embarks on a quest to become a Pro-Hunter and provide for his famous Hunter father after the latter abandons him.

The story continues to follow Gon and his companions through their bizarre experiences as Hunters. We think you’ll find the story’s unfolding to

8. Samurai Champloo

When you’re looking for an anime with a similar feel to Cowboy Bepop, try Samurai Champloo. This anime features an even more eccentric mash-up of Edo-era history and modern hip-hop and bohemian culture.

It also does an excellent job of giving a fresh perspective on a genre that has seen many similar shows in recent years. This anime has fantastic animation and line work, which is still relatively rare.

Storyline:

The protagonist, Fuu, goes on a quest to find a samurai with a distinctive sunflower aroma. In her travels, she meets Mugen and Jin, two people with very different personalities. They keep looking, and that leads to all kinds of trouble.

The narrative centers on the protagonists’ struggles against adversity and the lessons we can learn from them.

7. Inuyasha

One of the genres we’ll investigate is the romantic one. Truth be told, Inuyasha is not exactly a masterpiece of literature. The story is straightforward, but it’s told well.

Its characters are believable, and their feelings are conveyed convincingly. It’s the type of animated show that many of us grew up watching. This would be the perfect time to watch the show again.

Storyline:

Kagome Higurashi, a middle school student, is the protagonist of this series. She falls down a well and is isekaid to the Sengoku period, where she meets a half-demon named Inuyasha.

She breaks the jewel that appears on her body by accident, so the two of them set out on a quest to fix it before the half-demon Naraku gets his hands on it.

6. Gurren Lagann

Over-the-top and featuring ludicrous characters, Gurren Lagann is one of the best power anime. It’s loud and a lot of fun. The key to enjoying this anime to its full potential is to keep an open mind.

The plot is not overly complex and is not an attempt to do so. What we see in Gurren Lagann is what we get. The plot is exciting, the characters are interesting, and the speculation is spot on.

Storyline:

Set in the future, Gurren Lagann depicts Earth under the tyrannical rule of the Spiral King. The human population is confined to underground cities by order of this King. These communities are completely cut off from the outside world.

Simon, a timid young miner, teams up with Kamina, an eccentric criminal who inspires him to reach the surface.

5. Code Geass

I mean, Code Geass, what can we say? It’s brilliant. When it comes to anime, I just never found myself drawn to mecha. In spite of initial bias, the film ultimately proves to be enjoyable.

It’s engrossing, thought-provoking, and excellently executed. Each character is complex and multi-faceted. They may be slightly insane, but they are fascinating all the same. For its duration, this anime is capable of maintaining suspense.

Storyline:

Code Geass is an alternate history anime/manga about a banished prince named Lelouch vi Britannia. He meets a woman named C.C. who grants him the “power of absolute obedience.”

Lelouch leads a rebellion against Britannia’s rule using this mysterious power, directing a number of thrilling mecha battles.

4. FullMetal Alchemist

Some consider Fullmetal Alchemist to be the best anime ever made. All of us have seen Brotherhood, but we never saw the pilot.

The level of fidelity with which these anime have adapted their source materials is the main point of differentiation. While Brotherhood has stayed true to the manga, the original movie strayed quite a bit.

It’s arguably the most disturbing and gloomy anime ever made. The only area where it could use improvement is in the animation, but character development has been greatly bolstered. So yes, I do advocate for this anime.

Storyline:

The Elric brothers, who had their bodies altered, are the protagonists of this anime who are looking for a cure. The group soon discovers a web of deeper conspiracies, discovers that the safety of their entire country is in jeopardy, and sets out to avert disaster.

3. Serial Experiments Lain

Conducted in a Series of Trials One of the most fascinating and darkly fascinating anime is Lain. It’s a masterwork that pushes the limits of the mind. It takes the reader on a dizzying journey through dark psychological themes and is unmatched in terms of intellectual rigor.

There are a lot of complicated ideas in this anime that can’t be easily explained. It still has a place in our modern world. Indeed, it seems to have predicted many developments before their time.

If you enjoy the more sinister side of anime, you should definitely give this a shot.

Storyline:

In this Japanese drama series, adolescent Lain Iwakura and her connection to the communication system Wired are the central focus. It does an excellent job of depicting the isolation, paranoia, and reliance on technology that its protagonist experiences.

2. Monster

Alright, Monster, on to our next masterwork. For a long time, the unsettling resemblance of this anime to reality was the primary source of my unease while watching it.

Subjects like social conditioning, sociopaths, and the importance of human life are discussed. This anime has excellent writing that builds to a satisfying climax over time.

However, when all is said and done, this is one anime that deserves your attention.

Storyline:

Story follows Japanese surgeon Kenzo Tenma (currently residing in Germany) whose life unravels after he begins dating Johan Libert. This former patient of his is a dangerous serial killer of exceptional intelligence.

1. Mushishi

My experience with Mushishi has the best storytelling of any anime I’ve watched. It doesn’t try to draw attention to itself by being garish, macabre, or ridiculous. It’s a work of pure, simple, magical storytelling. It’s undeniably charming in its understated elegance.

Its stories are engaging and well-structured without resorting to melodrama. It’s the sort of anime that sticks with you and prompts you to think deeply about life. Generally speaking, this anime is a must-watch.

Storyline:

The protagonist, Ginko, spends his life warding off supernatural beings known as Mushi. An entirely new plot and set of characters is introduced in each episode.
