In Golden Kamuy, who is the traitor?
Golden Kamuy is one of the best-written stories, with a compelling plot and interesting characters. It has kept us entertained with its tale progression and strange comedy.
The plot brings together a large number of persons that have little in common. This raises the question of when one of the characters will betray the gang.
We’ve been skeptical of several personalities, but who ultimately betrayed Sugimoto and his group?
At the end of Season 2, Kiroranke betrayed Sugimoto. Ogata and Kiroranke use the pandemonium at Abashiri Prison to sweep Asirpa away. During this event, Ogata also photographs Nopperabo and Sugimoto.
Events in the aftermath of Kiroranke’s betrayal
A brilliant twist isn’t something you didn’t see coming from a mile away, but rather something that makes you think, “Darn, shoulda guessed it.” That is where Golden Kamuy’s prose excels.
From the beginning of the series, there is a strong implication that Kiroranke is a traitor. Despite his association with Sugimoto and Asripa, little information about him has been revealed.
From Kiroranke’s point of view, there were almost no flashbacks. Hijikata further informs us that Nopperabo was a Russian partisan rather than an Ainu. Anyone with a comparable background could be lying about being an Ainu, it was claimed.
It wasn’t conclusive, but Kiroranke’s silence about Nopperabo’s genuine identity and background made him appear suspect.
All of this foreshadowing leads up to the second season finale, in which Sugimoto and Nopperabo are both killed by Ogata. Kiroranke was the one who signaled the attack, we later learn from a severely injured Inkarmat.
Kiroranke’s True Identity?
Kiroranke is an old friend of Asirpa’s father and a former Russian revolutionary. He battled alongside Wilk for minorities’ independence in order to reclaim their freedom.
Kiroranke is a perfect dichotomy; on the one hand, he is manipulative, but on the other, he is a man of his convictions, making him one of the most lovable characters in Golden Kamuy.
Golden Kamuy
Golden Kamuy is based on Satoru Noda’s manga series, of which 22 volumes have been published. The manga has already been turned into two seasons of anime, with a third on the way.
Saichi Sugimoto, a fighting veteran from the Russo-Japanese war, is important to the plot.
He is anxious for money and chooses to embark on a quest after hearing a myth about hidden Ainu wealth. Asirpa, a young Ainu girl, follows him.
