Here’s everything you need to know about the anime’s most strange Isekai worlds.
Isekai Quartet
When the actors from KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil pushed a red novelty button, they were taken to another world. The world of Isekai Quartet, on the other hand, was just a normal Japanese high school. Their school was so boring that it looked like it came from a generic anime about school life.
Isekai Quartet, which was a big hit, did this on purpose. Since these Isekai characters usually lived in mesmerizing worlds, being taken back to a boring school was “weird” for them. Isekai Quartet often used this difference as a joke, and the characters acted too much because of it.

The Saga of Tanya the Evil
One of the most out-there isekai is The Saga of Tanya the Evil. A violent battlefield is its idea of a wish come true. After assuming his new identity as Tanya, the nameless salaryman quickly concluded that he was still on Earth. The most notable distinction is that magic actually existed and was deployed during World War I.
Tanya found this brutal warzone to be paradise because she was a gleefully cruel misanthrope in her previous life. This isekai world stood out among other similarly self-indulgent isekai worlds for all the wrong reasons due to the fact that it existed solely to be Tanya’s sandbox instead of a well-thought-out alternate history.
Konosuba — God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!
Since Konosuba is a parody of the isekai genre, it makes sense that it takes place in the most generic fantasy setting possible. However, more consideration was given to the setting. In the hilarious shonen anime Konosuba, it is strongly suggested that the RPG fantasy elements are merely for show.
The red demons are the prime example of this. The Chuunibyou way of dressing and behaving was ingrained in them as “tradition.” Many critics of isekai anime claim that Konosuba takes the practice of granting wishes to an unusual degree.
Interspecies Reviewers
The notorious Interspecies Reviewers were a racy farewell to the fantasy anime genre. Its world was similar to that of countless other dynasties. The only real difference was that many of the realm’s red light districts were actually modern anachronisms.
The reviewers in question casually mentioned alien explorers who taught them about modern ways of life and technology. This would explain why electricity, maid cafés, and love motels appeared frequently in the isekai world created by Interspecies Reviewers.
