Almost often, the protagonist of an anime has a legendary mentor who helps them along the way. When it comes to anime, the best instructors are usually the most powerful characters in their worlds. Heroes often surpass their instructors’ abilities as the series progresses. The following are examples of anime heroes who are more powerful than their instructors.
All Might: My Hero Academia
Before All Might became the Symbol of Peace, he was mentored by Gran Torino in My Hero Academia. All Might’s inexperience and carelessness come under fire from Gran Torino frequently. Being valiant is admirable; charging headlong into war without considering the consequences is reckless.
Gran Torino is a tough instructor who believes in testing his students’ limits in order to build character. He admires All Might for becoming what he has, but he criticizes him for fostering impulsivity in Deku.
Giyu: Demon Slayer
Urokodaki, in Demon Slayer, was formerly known as Water Hashira. His successor in the Demon Slayer Corps was Giyu, whom he had prepared for the role. Giyu eventually surpassed Urokodaki as the superior Water Hashira. He internalized his teachings and then consistently outperformed even himself.
Demon Slayer’s most dangerous enemies, such as Akaza and Muzan, were no match for Giyu. Giyu’s stamina is unparalleled amongst his fellow Corps members. If he swings his Nichiren blade hard enough, he may create tiny snow storms.
Natsu Dragneel: Fairy Tail
Natsu was raised by Igneel in Fairy Tail. Igneel rules over the dragons of fire. Natsu owes him a great debt for his education in fire magic. After Igneel vanished without a trace, he decided to join the Fairy Tail Guild.
He learns that his previous guide has aligned himself with Acnologia and is now one of his deadliest foes. After a fierce battle, Natsu was able to beat Igneel and ultimately kill him. Without absorbing all of Igneel’s knowledge, Natsu would not have been able to beat him.
