Attack on Titan Episode 71 Reveals Bloodthirsty Jaegerists & a Cruel Sasegayo Chant
Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 12 was bone-chilling. There was no titan transformation, no mass-killing, no violence that can be compared to what we have already encountered. Yet, something in the anime has shifted to take a turn for the worse.
Eren has escaped from his detainment cell, and even though we all know what he wants to do next, we cannot predict what he will do to reach his goals.
Even after the attack on Marley, fans could not entirely detach themselves from the Eren that they have seen grow up from a rebellious child to an equally rebellious adult. However, the latest heartlessness of Eren has already left fans wondering if he is too far gone now.
The Rise of the Jaegerists
The scouts were already getting divided between the Jaegerists and the Anti-Jaeger faction for some time. But now, they have taken a step to consolidate their status as rebels. Darius Zackley, the commander in chief of the Marleyan military, has been brutally murdered.
In fact, Mikasa and Armin escaped the planned explosion by a hair’s breadth. Eren took advantage of the confusion created by the blast to escape the prison.
All the Jaegerists seem to be the scout’s younger members or the people who have not always been close to Eren. Yelena makes the situation worse by giving Eren the status of a supreme commander whose every step is right.
Attack on Titan Episode 70 Tries to Make Gabi See Through the “Counterfeits”
Even Mikasa and Armin do not know if they can convince Eren anymore. Their belief in Eren has been thoroughly shaken, and they seem to be forcing themselves to think that Eren is still the person they knew.
The newer generation of the military has chosen the path of violence and anarchy, and history seems to be repeating itself. The remaining armed forces of Eldia seems to have no other way left than to bargain with the Jaegerists.
A New Sasageyo Chant
Sasageyo is not just the most celebrated opening theme of Attack on Titan; it is also a call for unity. However, the latest episode seems to have twisted its actual meaning.
The chant can be interpreted in various ways, but in the anime, they use it for “Devote your hearts.” It is a chant that united the civilians with the rulers and the military. Now, it has become a chant that the Eldians are using against the military’s decisions.
The civilians are not phased after they witness Zackley’s burnt body. Instead, they think that their wishes have been fulfilled and Eren is their savior. When they chant Sasegeyo, it seems as if they want sacrifice rather than devotion.
