Attack on Titan “The Door of Hope” Shuts Off Reiner’s Illusions
Attack on Titan season 4 episode 3 shows us the evil and war-hungry side of mankind even more clearly.
Were we all waiting for mini-Reiner to get hit in the face with the truth or was it just me? The fact that Annie, the silent girl, was the one to punch some sense into him feels even better.
However, we all know that it will take much longer before Reiner breaks out of the brainwashing, but it will be too late by then.
“The Door of Hope” tests the patience of the audience a bit more, since no real action has started yet.
However, the backstory is needed to build up the sentiments of the viewers towards Reiner and the other Eldians who have been taught hateful things towards their own kind since birth.
1. The Six Warrior Candidates
Out of the six warriors who were sent to Paradis, three died within their first day. Annie, Bertolt, and Reiner are the only ones alive.
Annie loses her cool at last and attacks Reiner saying that if he cares for Marley so much then he can be the one to take the blame for the mission’s failure.

2. Fall of Wall Maria
The fall of Wall Maria is shown but this time, from the perspective of the attackers. The three survivors, Annie, Reiner, and Bertolt, turn into titans and bring down the outermost wall of Paradis.
What happens next is known to us all. The incident drives Eren, Mikasa, and Armin to join the survey corps.
However, the warriors had also realized that they cannot go back without any significant achievement. Five years go by and Eren is seen training. Reiner sees a piece of his past self in Eren.

3. The Never-ending Cycle
A number of incidents show how the miserable cycle of history repeats itself. Gabi is walking down the same path as Reiner. Reiner also saw how Eren is fighting against his limits just like he did in Marley.
Gabi will face the same disappointment and disillusionment as Reiner. All the soldiers who have gone to war are following the footsteps of heroes from the past.
As the scene shifts to the present, we see Reiner trying to kill himself. Yet, the cycle of destruction will not stop.
