Award-Winning ‘Inu-Oh’ Film to Debut its Soul-Stirring Tale in May 2022

Masaki Yuasa’s brainchild, Inu-Oh, tells the story of an unexpected duo from 14th century Japan. A masked boy, Inu-Oh, and a blind biwa player, Tomona, soon realize the potential they have together.

When Inu-Oh’s turbulent dance meets Tomona’s beautiful music, it is a sight to behold. These pop stars from old Japan will be portrayed in the upcoming film to give your heart a worthy feast.

The Inu-Oh anime film will premiere on May 28, 2022, in Japan. The new trailer shows the bond between Inu-Oh and Tomona.

The teaser shows some scenes in which Tomona plays a groovy beat while Inu-Oh dances in wild abandon. The flashy performances of the duo will change the lives of the people around them, as the music toys with their souls.

The new visual shows Inu-Oh holding a gourd mask and Tomona holding a biwa. People have surrounded them to witness their performance, and the visual gives off traditional music festival vibes.

GKIDS has licensed the film for Japan, and it has already won the Special Distinction Prize in the International Competition – Feature Film category award at the 23rd Bucheon International Animation Festival.

Inu-Oh and Tomona will become buddies in the upcoming film to survive the nasty world. They will bloom each others’ talents and reach the top of the era via their art. It is a unique story that makes me look forward to their timeless friendship.

About Inu-Oh

INU-OH is a musical anime feature film of Hideo Furukawa’s Heike Monogatari: INU-OH no Maki (Tales of the Heike: INU-OH) novel. The film will make its world premiere and compete in the Horizons (Orizzonti) category at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

Inu-Oh is born with unique physical characteristics, and the horrified adults cover every inch of his body with garments, including a mask on his face. One day, he meets a boy named Tomona, a blind biwa player, and as Tomona plays a delicate song of tangled fate, Inu-Oh discovers an incredible ability to dance.

Inu-Oh and Tomona become business partners and through the songs, Inu-Oh mesmerizes his audiences on stage, and gradually begins to transform into someone of unequaled beauty. But why is Tomona blind? Why was Inu-Oh born with unique characteristics?
