Award Winning Manga ‘Frieren’ Greenlit for Anime Adaptation
Most stories begin with the hero setting out to defeat the demon. Yet, the story of Frieren starts after the heroes’ party has already defeated their enemy.
So, what now? What will these heroes do for the rest of their lives now that the great enemy has been defeated? The question is especially worrying for an elf whose lifespan is hundreds of years.
The 10-year war against the demon was just a passing second for the elf mage ‘Frieren,’ and the upcoming anime will tell her life story.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, the award-winning manga by Tsukasa Abe, has been greenlit for an anime adaptation. The cover of volume 9 of the series carried the announcement.
Frieren is a critically acclaimed manga that has received many awards. It won the New Creator Prize in 2021 for the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. It was also nominated for the Shonen Manga category for the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2021.

The story is a breath of fresh air as it takes a break from the usual ‘journey to defeat an enemy’ trope. It rather deals with the existential crisis that heroes face after their ultimate task is over.
The protagonist elf, Frieren, is bound to outlive her comrades, but she has to carry on with her life. This story will show just how she spends her years as she meets new humans but regrets how she can never get to know them enough due to their short lifespans.
