The Blue Exorcist mangaka had announced an eight-month-long hiatus just to work on the manga adaptation of Fuyumi Ono’s horror novel. Although their union was a bit surprising, the combination of a dark fantasy mangaka and a horror novelist should work just fine.

After a month-long wait for the details, we finally have our first look.

Blue Exorcist mangaka Kazue Kato will release the manga adaptation of Fuyumi Ono’s horror novel titled Eizen Karukaya Kaitan (Strange Tales from the Handy Shop Karukaya). The manga will be released on 3rd September 2021 in the October issue of Jump Square magazine.

This manga adaptation will be six chapters long which will be released monthly.

The visual for the manga is dominated by a mysterious guy who is holding up a measuring tape. On a closer look, we see a creepy hand on his shoulder and a glimpse of an eye upon a closer look.

This guy might be a coworker of Shoko, the main character of the story who is seen interacting with the guy in the rough manga panels in the background.

The story centers around a girl named Shoko, who lives alone in a shop she inherited from her aunt. Her mother told her that the shop used to be the home of a samurai, and his ghost causes strange ongoings in the shop. She is cynical until one rainy day, she sees a dead woman in a black kimono.

The plot is very reminiscent of Grudge films; if the manga lives up to that, horror fans, you might regret reading this one.
