Christopher Meloni to Appear on Law and Order: SVU!
Elliot Stabler is coming back to work with the Special Victims Unit after almost nine years! Christopher Meloni, who played the role of the veteran police officer in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, joined the current cast of the show for a virtual table read for a new episode of the 22nd season.
Meloni’s character was one of the leads in the long-running series that revolves around sexual crimes and crimes against the elderly. The actor left the show after the twelfth season over problems with the contract. His character retired from the police force and was written off the show.
Early this year, Meloni delighted many fans when he announced that he was returning to the Law and Order universe as Elliot Stabler, with a show of his own called Law and Order: Organized Crime. However, it was reported in early October that Organized Crime would not release in 2020 because the showrunner had exited the production team.
Fans were disappointed with the delay and were eager to know if Meloni’s show would ever see the light of day. On December 3rd, SVU showrunner Warren Leight tweeted a photo of a recent table read and Meloni is clearly visible in it.
It seems like Stabler will return to the show but it is unclear whether he will be appearing in more than one episode. If it is one episode, will it be the backdoor pilot to his new show?
Fans will have to tune in to the 22nd season of Law and Order: SVU every Thursday on NBC to find out.
