Comiket 99 Gets Rescheduled to December 2021 for The Last Time
There is no better event for unknown manga artists and fans than Comic Market(Comiket). After suffering like every other live event during the COVID-19 pandemic, the event hopefully now has a final date.
Last year, Comiket 98 had to go digital in order to keep up with the pandemic. With successive reschedules for Comiket 99 in December 2020, followed by May, and November 2021 respectively, fans feared that this edition too would suffer the same fate. At least until now.
Comic Market 99 or Comiket 99 has been rescheduled from December 30th to December 31st, 2021. The event will take place at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center. The participation applications for the event will start on 2nd August 2021.
Comic Market 99 on the new schedule will be held from December 30th to 31st, 2021.
Future information will be announced on the official website. See the release on the new Comic Market.English Translation, Twitter Translate
Unfortunately, though, the organizing committee has refused to deny the possibility of further postponement in their official statement. Even with that, looking at the situation, this might be really it.
This optimism also comes from the fact that the rate of vaccinations in Japan has gone up due to the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The majority of the population, except for children, will likely be vaccinated by the end of this year. The country even has plans to open up its borders in winter.
Otaku’s Heaven – Comic Market 99 Reschedules To Only 3 Days Due To Covid-19
The event boasts an average attendance of almost 200,000 people during the four-day period. Even with a two-day edition this year, the event contributes greatly to the local economy and the industry, which is essential due to the sharp dip during the pandemic.
So, Comiket 99 will likely get postponed again and not canceled, even if something were to happen later.
The event will be the first public event of its kind in almost two years, so it might even have more attendance than the previous ones. With everything slowly returning back to “normal”, mark your calendars for probably the biggest doujinshi event ever.
