Crunchyroll to Stream Suzume no Tojimari in Non-Asian Regions in 2023
Makoto Shinkai is making a solid comeback after three years with Suzume no Tojimari. After what we got from masterpieces like Your Name and The Garden of Words, I can only imagine how marvelous this one will be.
There’s no doubt that the scenery and animation will be so mesmerizing that we won’t be able to take our eyes off the screen. And such a big-scale movie requires an equally huge streaming platform.
Crunchyroll will stream Makoto Shinkai’s upcoming film Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume’s Door-Locking) globally outside Asia in early 2023. The film will make its theatrical debut in Japan on 11 November 2022.
The platform will distribute the film in North America and with Sony Pictures Entertainment in Latin America, South America, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa, and portions of Europe.
The story follows a 17-year-old girl Suzume who opens a mysterious door that unleashes a series of terrible disasters across Japan. These disasters come from various ‘doors’ that have appeared throughout the country, and now it’s Suzume’s responsibility to close them all and save the people from doom.
You’d think that why would a sane person open a mysterious door situated in the middle of nowhere. But as the movie describes it, even rational thinkers will be drawn toward the door and be swayed to turn the knob.
New Makoto Shinkai Film, Suzume no Tojimari, Reveals an Entrancing Trailer
Shinkai’s films are famous for giving the female protagonist more power and depth that contributes to the plot. His way of creating those characters seems natural, unlike many other female-centric media that look performative or forced.
This is just one of the reasons I’m looking forward to it quite eagerly.
